sometimes the only thing i want is for you to look in my direction and smile like when you met me for the first time

to look at me the way i’m used to like you’re gazing into heaven, with your vision just beyond the golden clouds of afternoon

to set your sight on me like i’m the only one in the room to assure yourself that i was still there that my eyes were warm and welcoming as ever that i wouldn’t wander off too far anywhere

that my hands would hold your face forever that my love for you today was the same as it was yesterday…

…this is how i remember you so in love with the person that you knew i was and would always be

you knew that god gave me everything i asked of him, and it scared you that i could run my fingers through the cloudy sky and bring the sun back to you

that i could call the stars by their name into place in the blackened night and make this hazy afternoon last for twenty five more years

you knew that i could breathe new life into you every morning and that you could find comfort when i was near to you

that you were ever reaching, ever growing fonder of the love i had to offer you.
