I saw this small bird (location is Florida). I assume it was a type of warbler, but I don’t know my warblers. (If anyone has any tips for identifying warblers, feel free to tell me). Some things in the drawing might be off like the beak, legs, and eyes, because I didn’t really pay attention to them. Also it was hours ago so I might not remember correctly anyways.
There's a free download of a visual finder here. It's not a full guide, but I still find it helpful, especially the undertail section. You might also want to look into behavior; tail bobbing is a good indicator for Palm Warbler for example.
Probably a Palm Warbler if it was hopping on the ground. I see 20 palm warblers for every 1 warbler of a different species where I live in central Florida. They are extremely numerous. Palm Warblers are the only warblers I see hopping on the ground other than the occasional Ovenbird. Other warblers stick to the bushes or trees. I saw that Common Yellowthroat was mentioned, I only see those in thick bushes or brush, never see them on the ground.
Common Yellowthroat will hop on the ground a little bit too. I got a photo of one on the ground: https://scontent-msp1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/280744645\_10100694611471621\_4141741882056384721\_n.jpg?\_nc\_cat=107&ccb=1-7&\_nc\_sid=730e14&\_nc\_ohc=AU6LP3-Po4IAX\_EaCll&\_nc\_ht=scontent-msp1-1.xx&oh=00\_AfBGDVDB0Y3XLwXzMgsjiGH1tStpc4Rl4KHwM1z5qyII\_A&oe=638B47D3
I don’t know because I dont think there were any patterns like the palm warblers I saw in pictures, I’ll try to observe more stuff next time I see one, thanks
Common Yellowthroat (female)?
I think it is. I was between yellowthroat and palm warbler, but looking at it now, palm warbler has markings that I don’t think the bird I saw had. The one I saw didn’t really have any patterns I don’t think. I’m just gonna assume it was a yellowthroat, thanks
every picture in this reddit should be drawn, this is great :-D
His drawing is good
Ty
Absolutely!
Thanks
I just love these MS paint drawings. It makes the IDing so much more fun.
I made this on autodesk sketchbook on my iPad, but yeah it’s fun
If you see one again pay attention to what it's doing with its tail. Palm warbler will flick it back and forth almost constantly like it can't control itself. It's a dead give-away that's helped me ID palms before even getting binoculars on them.
I’ll keep that in mind 👍
“Was hopping”
It’s true :)
I LOVE the "was hopping" with little action lines
I can’t find that measurement on any of my rulers or tapes. Love the sketch.
Painted bunting?
No, I think it was either a palm warbler or a common yellowhtroat
Palm warbler maybe?
That’s what I thought, but warblers look so similar to me so idk. It’s probably a palm warbler though
A group of warblers is called a confusion for a reason ;)
Lol
