no one tells you what to do
when you think you want to live by yourself,
you think
no one will take your food or steal your shampoo
no one will leave the toilet seat up and
no one will leave clothes on the bathroom floor
no one will make the living room messy and the kitchen will always stay clean
no one will give you weird looks if you spend the whole week in sweatpants
no one will stop you from staying up till three and sleeping in till three
no one will stop you if you want eggs for dinner or whiskey for breakfast
no one will watch you when you dance by yourself or scream at yourself
no one will ruin your happy days and
no one will throw parties when you're down
you realize you can't wait to have your own home
a place just for you that fits your life as it fits your mind
no one tells you what to do
when you grow up and live by yourself,
you learn
no one makes and shares food with you
no one helps clean up and decorate your house
no one greets you after long days at work
no one bursts into songs with you
no one you can watch bad reality tv with
no one makes sure you get your things done and
no one you can rant to
no one tells you that you stink and need to shower
no one tells you when you have spinach in your teeth
no one brings you tea when you're sick and
no one puts a blanket on you after you passed out on the couch
no one is worried if you're not home and
no one tells you to text them when you're there
no one hugs you on your sad days and
no one throws a party on your birthday
you realize, you created a house you always wanted
but the person who makes it your home, is not you
