Adding VA Disability Pay Dates to your Google/Outlook Calendar

Money Matters :dollar_sign_black:

If you are like me and like to have everything listed on your calendar so you know when it is happening (anxiety is a killer) you may have wanted to put your disability pay so it reoccurs on the last day of the month. Google Calendar doesn't have this feature built in, but you can make it happen by importing a calendar event into your calendar for the last weekday every month.

To create this event, open notepad and paste the following text:

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION:2.0
BEGIN:VEVENT
RRULE:FREQ=MONTHLY;INTERVAL=1;BYSETPOS=-1;BYDAY=MO,TU,WE,TH,FR
SUMMARY:VA Disability Pay
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20221230
SEQUENCE:0
DESCRIPTION: VA Disability Disbursement
TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
X-MICROSOFT-CDO-BUSYSTATUS:FREE
END:VEVENT
END:VCALENDAR
  1. Save the file as VA_Monthly.ics (the file name doesn't matter, just make sure it is .ICS)
  2. Then go into Google Calendar Settings (click the gear and choose settings)
  3. Go to Import/Export
  4. Select the file and click import

DISCLAIMER: This event does not include holiday adjustments, just the last weekday.

If you are one of those people who's bank gives you the money a day or two early and you want your calendar to reflect that in the text above change, use this one: and then follow the steps 1-4 above.

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION:2.0
BEGIN:VEVENT
RRULE:FREQ=MONTHLY;INTERVAL=1;BYSETPOS=-2;BYDAY=MO,TU,WE,TH,FR
SUMMARY:VA Disability Pay
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20221230
SEQUENCE:0
DESCRIPTION: VA Disability Disbursement
TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
X-MICROSOFT-CDO-BUSYSTATUS:FREE
END:VEVENT
END:VCALENDAR

You can modify the color of the event and tailor it to fit your needs such as if you want a reminder the day before, etc.

If you want to make your calendar reflect when you first started getting VA Pay change the to the date that you started getting VA Pay.

DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20221230

I added an extra line for Outlook Free/Busy info. It is even easier to put this in Outlook, you just open your calendar and Drag and Drop it in and you should be good to go.

Enjoy!
