My thoughts on the item shop and potential suggestions
Preface:
I get that replacing chests when you level up was a nice feeling in Vermintide 2 and replacing it with money and checking a shop doesn't feel as great. I also realize that crafting hasn't been implemented yet so I don't know how anything I say here will relate to that system.
I also think they should focus on bug fixes and performance at this point before they start changing systems.
Actual thoughts:
I've seen people upset that the item shop isn't giving them what they want. I think this is made worse by a couple of factors. If you finish a mission in 25 minutes there is a real chance that you could see the same items in the shop 3 times before you complete a mission and see something new (assuming you check the shop and go for the next mission immediately after). Second, there's no way to test out weapons you haven't used yet without spending resources. Third, there doesn't seem to be better chances of seeing weapons you haven't seen in a while, or if there is it's not noticeable enough or communicated to us.
When it comes to money vs chests I prefer money since it gives you more options to choose from but I think the reset on the shop needs to be faster so that when you come back from a mission there is most likely going to be something new. Coming back from a mission and seeing the same items doesn't feel great. Maybe every 30 minutes instead of every hour.
My other suggested fixes for this is to have at least 1 weapon of each type and a couple curios always appear in the shop at random rarity levels (and power levels are based on your highest power level weapon), give an amount of crafting materials to upgrade weapons when you disassemble/sell a weapon and have an option in the menu to go straight to the store instead of having to run there.
The idea with these suggestions is to make the randomness less punishing but still worth checking to see how the dice fell, and less of a chore to see what they got.
If I'm repeating what anyone else has said then just view this as me throwing my support behind those ideas. I doubt I'm the first to make these suggestions.
