We used to esteem that

When good was still good

And people were still human

The civil standard for

Acceptance has shifted

....We must look the same

........Feel the same

............Dress the same

................Vote the same

....................Believe the same tenants

........................Worship the same deity, or none at all

If we are unequal

The societal divider is raised

And the segregating line is drawn

In the sands of humankind

​

And so we trade our identity for conformity

And abandon our individuality and

Join the masses of raised fists in resigned peace

Just to blend in and be accepted

Into the mosh pit of approval

​

If being accepted means

I must shed myself lest I be an outcast

Then I will be content in scrupulous solitude
