Compass Rose

Workshop

A midsummer brood
of thirteen-year cicadas
leaving shells behind

to shimmer upon dark shelves
as an ancient medicine

we stir into tea
to relieve the wind and heat
buzzing in our throats.

Cracks in stone welcome the rain
like mouths swallowing the sky.

Very excited to announce the second installment of u/RedTheTimid’s and my renga! Expect an additional tanka at the end of every month. (Yes, I know it’s the third, but we’ll get our timing on track by next year🤞) I plan to keep this thing going until we’re both white-haired.
