Sims 4 Mods on a 2022 MacBook Air (with Terabytes of space) continuously crashing my game… help 😭
When I was a kid, my parents didn’t encourage gaming. Like… at all. Now that I’m an adult, I’ve downloaded Sims 4 at the beginning of the year on a brand new MacBook Air, and I feel like I’m healing my inner child - as well as expressing myself more creatively and I really, really enjoy it especially with the custom content I have downloaded. I really only use it exclusively for building, so you can imagine why I enjoy downloading custom content so much.
However, once every couple of months my entire game crashes and Origin just cannot and will not open the application. This happened again two days ago, and I’m on the verge of giving up on trying to fix it which makes me really sad because it’s one of the few things I really, truly, whole heartedly enjoy doing with my spare time. I’ve also payed for custom content from creators like Aggressive Kitty, Cowbuild and so many more via Patreon. Things I’ve done to prevent this from happening/fix it include;
- removing my mods folder, opening the game to generate a new one, and then putting the packages back in. This worked for me like once.
- I don’t ever download mods that I know my laptop can’t handle/ or anything 3 years old+
- restarting my computer (duh)
- repairing the game or updating the game via origin
- scrapped my mods folder, deleted all the content from my computer, started again
- tried opening the application via Finder
- organised my mods folder with subfolders, dragged them out one by one and tried opening the game again to find the folder with the mod that clearly isn’t working There’s definitely more ways I’ve tried, I just can’t think of them in this moment.
I’ve tried going to YouTube and pages on google and followed instructions step by step, nothing works. I’d say the most common advice I’ve gotten in the past is basically to just get a gaming computer, but I can’t afford it (MacBook was a gift from my parents) so I’m trying my absolute best to avoid spending unnecessary amounts of money when I’m not even able to buy my first car yet, so that’s really not an option for me.
I can’t express the value this game holds for me, it’s given me a lot of inspiration and motivation in life and it would just suck if I wouldn’t be able to fix it or find a way around this problem. I’ve never posted on reddit before, but I had to in hopes that someone will have something new to guide me with because this is my absolute last straw and it breaks my heart knowing that I could be done with it for good.
Like I said before, I have only been doing this for the last 8-10 months at most, so if something is obvious and I’m missing it; I’m relatively new to the community so please be kind 🤍
Thank you in advance, I would greatly appreciate absolutely any advice I can get.
