Father of the Year

Poem

You taught me things

I wish I did not know

Like how to loathe my being

which prevented me to grow

I use my words to make myself big

because you taught me to feel so small

and now twenty-three years later

I’m afraid to even answer your call

I wasn’t always like this

I think I used to be okay

Until you broke me down

somewhere around my 13th birthday

You say you weren’t abusive

and in someways that maybe true

although you never touched me

you brought my depression in view

I wish I knew how to fix myself

I wish I knew what I did wrong

unfortunately this pain you’ve instilled in me

will be with me forever, it’s life long

1 & 2
