Puberty: the curse of a woman's body

I was only nine when it began

A woman's body

Budding, curving, pimpley, hairy

I wasn't ready for the change.

I used to play with my brothers

We would wrestle, catch lizards, and sing

No longer allowed to play, mother would say

You have a woman's body now

It's time for a change

.

Summer days were very hot

But mother said to cover everything up

Spaghetti straps and shorts would lead men astray

You have a woman's body now

It's time for a change

I couldn't understand

Why everything had to change

I was still just a child

Who cursed my woman's body

.

It's gross

I'm gross

I should have been born a boy
