Genetics
Ever since my mom told me about her dad
I’ve come to see things in a different hue
Taking a look at my foundations
Is it red or is it blue?
.
Both sides of the family
Three more than a few
Had quite the burgundy aesthetic;
Do I sometimes too?
.
Let me examine all possible impulses
With a very fine-toothed comb
Is it good or is it thoughtless?
Me, or my grandfather’s loan?
.
And could it be deflection
When she said we all so hide
To smile the world in reflection
With tranquility inside?
.
I think I’d like a scale of definitions
To measure the weight of my care
What is learned
Versus what is just, fair
.
Last on my list:
Is it normal to wear yourself, version many and 22?
Maybe it’s life
Or maybe, Pop-pop, it’s you
