Laughable job offer

I applied for HyVee for an extra part-time job for some extra holiday pay. I worked at this HyVee for two and half years as a deli clerk, which is the position I applied for.

HyVee is still offering a base pay of $11.50/hr, and when I quit, I made $12.50/hr. They only offered $13.50/hr when I have two years prior experience and require zero training for their busiest time.

This offer is laughable. Every other grocery chain in my area at least has a minimum starting pay of $15/hr or more, and HyVee won’t even match their competition's pay. Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Fairway, Costco, Aldi’s, and even Kwik Star pays more in my area.

Sorry, but not taking poverty wages as a seasonal helper. Seems the people that are still working here need a union.

Yes, would love it HyVee workers unionized. Too many boot lickers, however.

All of what you said, times 10.

How do those boots taste?

My store starts brand new people at $13-$14 depending on previous experience. That’s crazy.

I worked at Hyvee for 4 years and before I left last October, I only made $11.75 after they skipped over 2 raises since last March. When I put in my 2 weeks to go to start my new job as a cashier assistant at Costco (which pays a starting rate of $17.50) they tried raising my pay to $12.25 last minute in an attempt to make me stay, which is laughable.

I'm currently seasonal at Costco but I'm hoping to stay on and it seems that's the direction I'm heading in. I genuinely like working at Costco, whereas when I worked at Hy-Vee I felt so angry and upset, and hated everything and even the customers could sense it. Now I feel like I'm fairly (and honestly generously) payed for what I do.

I worked at HyVee for 10 years before having had enough. They had a sign that they’d start Market Grille employees at $20/hr. When management was asked about employees salaries being raised to match the sign, it was said that the offer is to bring in new employees. Major slap in the face among other s.

Did you counter with what you think is acceptable? You never know—it can’t hurt to ask. They are pretty desperate.

I did. I asked for $15 an hour, which is what HyVees competition is paying for an entry position, and Hyvee refused to budge on their offer of $13.50 an hour. Side note this is their best-performing store in the area.

They don’t need a union.
