Once Again, Lost

Poem

There by the riverbank on a winter’s night,

he is once again, lost.

For he is another man of timeless ends,

Always seeking which way is right.

His faith is offered to the icy river,

chasing worn tracks in snow.

In search of an end to the chilling winds,

Slipping further, further down, as all water must flow.

And with each step he shadows,

On the edge of that creek

For a time, No longer lost,

Found, yet again, by the end he must seek.

But he concludes cold, craving reason,

desperate to understand.

Resentful to the former steps

That lent him a hand.

Yet in that white haze there is no end,

But more of old tracks crossed.

Thus, he lies broken at the wilting bed

And is once again, lost.

He is but a man in pursuit of life’s way

And has lost the time to learn,

As he strays deeper into winter’s night,

Searching for the end he will never cease to yearn.
