ski attire for near 0° weather

I ski at Loveland and tomorrow will be my first time in such cold temperatures. I have 2 questions about it:

1. It's safe to go tomorrow, right? I don't know why it wouldn't be, but this whole cold thing is still pretty new to me. Just wanna double check it's not a bad idea to go

And 2) How would you layer for such cold? I've just been wearing thermals under my snow pants and jacket and have mostly felt fine. Do you think adding a sweatshirt / pullover would be enough? Or should I add a down layer? What do you typically do?
