Absolutely! Thank you to all the line workers who are away from their families and battling the bitter cold to restore power as soon as humanly possible. You're all appreciated.

Well-earned.

I am grateful to them and all people who must work outdoors.

The people at Discount Tires - my postal delivery person - the water management people - and everyone else I have undoubtedly left off.

Thank you for mentioning water management people. My husband and his crew have been working nonstop, repairing water main breaks. Literally being soaked in water and mud during these frigid temperatures.

The workers are great, it’s too bad the company they work for sucks.

Same logic can be applied most places.

Thank you for hundreds of energy workers working hard on this very cold weather. The complexity of electric grid is so high, and the work to restore the grid is tough.

No thanks to Duke executives though. I have learned enough about industrial accident to know that many of the problems is caused by “cost efficiency” that somehow didn’t reduce the income of the CEOs.

Like how our power lines aren't buried?

Cost aside, in many instances the power company has to work with property owners to essentially buy easements to bury lines and, in many cases, put those small green transformers on the property. It takes a lot of effort to convince people to do it. Many don’t want to risk lowering their property value with a transformer.

they need the same easements to put up a pole line. But even if we do put cost aside (which we shouldn't lol), main lines really need to be above ground because they can be repaired quickly in any situation. If something goes bad underground your power is going to be out much longer

Ah Duke Energy the cause of and answer to the outage.

But seriously, we appreciate the hard work these folks had to do in the bitter cold.

With nearly 4B in profit last year, you’d think Duke would have the ability to maybe send out a warning of pending rolling blackouts. :-)

They don’t have to care when they’re the only option and people are willing to freeze in their trailers just so they can say “free market” one last time.

For anyone that’s interested you can get a plate that signifies this too. Part of the cost of the plate goes to benefit burn victims.

Actually a cool looking plate too

I was just thinking about this after reading the electric car assholes complain about not being able to eat at their favorite restaurants on Christmas Eve. So thankful for these people sacrificing their family time to make sure ours can be a little more normal during this holiday season. Superhero’s do exist.

As I reach the middle of my 13th hour without power on this Christmas Eve that should have started cooking 5 hours ago, I am having a lot of feelings towards energy workers and gratitude is not one of them!!!

It's not the workers that turned off the power though

3
Velvetfatty•

That does mean I don't hope they get coal in their stockings at this point!
