Between the Bars
The wind blows again
My cigarette burns a little brighter than I like it to
The wine’s a little too stale
The cold bites a little too hard on my fingertips
I go through the images that are stuck in my head
I live again, what I once swore to forget
I see now, what I should’ve seen back there and then
Another gust of cold wind
Light up another one
Pour me another one
Let me not be satisfied again
Let me forget I was ever here
I smell the images that I can’t seem to see anymore
The blood struggles to reach my head, like it once fought to flow out of it
The wind blows with a sound
The silence awakes and drowns the sound
The dancing smoke that dies the second I let go of it
The moments that fade to black and the memories that come back to life
Back in that place
Back where it all ended and it all began
Hundreds of little spears on the side of my face
A tear scapes
I feel it freeze on a face I don’t recognize
Smoke fills a chest that never bore my heart
The glass breaks in a hand that’s never touched mine
A man without a face is reaching for my throat
He has a pair of really beautiful scars on his wrists
Dear wind,
Did the night ever end?
Did I survive?
