The Titanium White Octane
Imagine this. You queue into the first round of a 2s tournament with your friend. And then you enter the waiting room, and you see that one of your opponents has it.
A white border around their Octane. The Titanium White Octane. It's legendary. The most adored, expensive and sought after car body in Rocket League. White works well with every color, yet always stands out, since white can't be your primary color. You see YouTubers using it, you see pros using it, and when you see an enemy using it, you envy them.
In a lot of ways, it's a beacon, drawing attention to the player wearing it. It reveals something about them - that they were willing to spend the large amount of time or money to trade for it. It symbolizes that player's love, passion and investment in this game.
For a lot of people who trade in Rocket League, it's a goal. It was one of my goals when I started trading. People scour forums, endlessly search through Looking for Group posts and deal with idiots, just to scramble their way up to enough credits to turn a few lines on their car a different color. It would be cheaper to buy a different TW car, but no, it has to be the Octane. Always the Octane.
Today, the legacy of the Titanium White Octane ends. It's releasing in the item shop, for a fraction of the cost of its tradeable versions. It no longer symbolizes that a trader spent many hours or that a player took the leap to buy one - anyone can own one from now on.
For the record, I think the TW Octane looks mid. For almost every design, there's a better color than TW. I like designs that have personality, that are unique, that are your own. Stuff that matches colors and themes and makes you go "I've never seen a car like that before". Everyone has seen a TW Octane with a 'clean' decal before. At least the TW Octane used to mean something. Now, it'll be a ghost of its former self, leaving us to only remember the significance, not feel it.
RIP Titanium White Octane
