What helped ease your fear of death?

Not sure if this is the best place for this but you seem like friendly bunch, and I wanted to run this by you all - all opinions welcome.

So, my partner has started to experience generalised medical anxiety within the last year or so, and it has really ramped up over the last few months.

Whenever she experiences some kind of pain (headache, cramp etc.) something in her head tells her that 'this is it, you're about to die'.

She has been to see a doctor, had blood tests etc. and all have come up clear. She was diagnosed with globus sensation caused by anxiety, but whenever she is cleared for one thing, the fixation shifts to something else.

Currently, she's worried about having a brain aneurism. The logical side of her is entirely aware that all is well, but that doesn't really help when alarm bells are ringing in her head.

She knows she probably needs therapy, but is reluctant for a handful of reasons. I love her so, and hate to see her feeling so bad. I have had an idea, but I'm not sure if it's sensible - this is why I'm running this by you guys.

With her consent, I have been compiling a few videos on YouTube that discuss the topic of fearing death, health anxiety, and intrusive thoughts.

My plan watch these with her after consuming 225mcg of 1V-LSD, and discuss her thoughts and feelings on what is being brought up. I guess the goal of this experience would be to (ideally) help alter her perspective on the above, but failing that - she'd have a good launching point for discussion when she does feel comfortable approaching a therapist.

We have tripped together several times on higher doses, I'm pretty confident that we can work though any hard feelings that may arise.

But y'know, not everything always goes to plan - just wanted to see what your opinions on this plan is, if you have any warnings/advice to give, resources to point me to or anecdotes to share.

Thanks for your time, have a great Christmas 😊

Used to be a hypochondriac, just occurred to me lately that I didn't have any health fear in a long long time. Not sure why, probably because I meditate and excercise every day. Around 3 years ago I started a list where I wrote down every fear I had, and it grew relatively long. Every time I'd add a new thing I'd reread the whole list, and realise that none of them come true, so chances are the new one is irrational as well. Also the book "How to stop worrying and start living" helped a lot.

During my last trip I did a solo, put on eyeshades and some music, and at one point were thinking about how we,re all going to die eventually anyway, even if we manage to find a cure for aging, and make our species interplanetary, the heat death of the universe will come. At that point the thought of death just seemed like an absolutely normal and natural thing, I had no fear of it.

That's was just my experience at that moment, I'm really not sure how to talk through something like this, but maybe she will be able to frame it in her mind in a way that will be helpful.

Edit: Reading the book I mentioned before the trip would probably help her understand fear, and it might all come together to some kind of realisation with lsd. I find that whatever I read/learn/think about in the weeks before the dropping is usually something that I come to appreciate in a different light during the trip, if that makes sense.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond. She's a very logical and practical person, so maybe this would be helpful for her too. Anything is worth a try!

what helped my fear with death?

i overdose around 2015 but i’ve wanted to die since before then. what helped me out was the coma i was in for 3 weeks, the peacefulness i felt during that stage, i was able to see my grandpa during that stage as well, my final dream was the best way i could have gone out, when i woke up again i wanted to return to that stage, i wanted to be at peace again. i’ve never feared death, i feared that it would have been long and painful process that’s what i currently fear, but a quick and painless death is what i’ve always wanted

Have a life so shitty that dieing seems like salvation?

But jokes aside, death is a necessary part of life that will happen no matter what, and if i allways fear this moment will come too soon, then when would i ever be ready for it? So for me, letting go of the fear of death has a lot to do with letting go of desires to experience certain futures. The classic "live more in the here and now, enjoy the present instead of worrying about the future" is what does the trick for me.

On my way home from preschool the bus was hit by a car and I woke up alone in the hospital. Thats when I learned some day I was gonna die and I was ultimately alone through this life. Life is about living though not dying.
