diluted dyes

this is probably a silly question but was wondering anyways. curious if i could dilute dyes to get a more pastel tone out of them. have the three primaries from dharma laying around and theyre cute but i cant think of much i would want to use them for personally, theyre really bright and i dont see them working well with the other dyes i got. was wondering if i could use less dye in a water solution to get a more mild color or if that would mess with how it sets / how it looks.
