Critique

Hey all! I'm here with the opening of my current project, entitled The Republic of Letters. It's a multilinear postmodern novel based on the works of Vladimir Nabokov and Lawrence Durrell, and I'm hoping to get critique on everything - the writing, the techniques, the invocation of emotions, etc...

The opening is a scattering of the ashes scene, and chronologically, is actually the final scene of the story; there are structural and technical reasons why it is told first, but if anybody has critique on this, feel free to share.
