my new $180 paddle sounds like a salt shaker when I shake it, should I send it back?

Question

Is this something that causes performance issues? I've only used it 3 times so far. Have never had a paddle do this in the past, and this is the nicest own I've owned so far.

If it’s a ProKennex it’s normal, that’s the vibration dampening stuff inside.

it's a Joola Solaire. I'm pretty sure it didn't do it before using it, so it looks like I'll have to send it back.

Joola replaced my Hyperion CFS under warranty after it developed a rattle. Contact their CS department. They'll have you make a short video demonstrating the rattle. You'll have to send back at your own expense (~$10) and they'll ship the replacement once yours arrives at their facility. I've gone through this twice with Joola; second time was for an edgeguard that became completely unglued.

Joolas CS experience is embarrassing. Source: owned 2

The worst.

Other than paying shipping to return the paddle and having to wait for it to arrive before Joola ships out the replacement, both of my experiences have been excellent. The second return was even outside the 6 month warranty period and they sent a free paddle. In each case, I was contacted within hours of filling out an online warranty request and had an RA# within the same day as well.

Both my Radius paddles do this. Heard it's dry glue that breaks off.

This needs to be higher. Prokennex paddles use small pellets on the inside and have a “sand-like” sound when shaken.

Lol do you think anyone buys a ProKennex paddle without knowing that?

Actually someone I play with went so far as to call the company about it, also asked me if mine did that…

Yes. Everyone who has a ProKennex, when I tell them to shake it by their ear, are always surprised.

That’s very odd to me that you would have an issue like tennis elbow, but an expensive paddle hoping that it will remedy that issue, and have no interest In why it’s supposed to fix said issue. People are interesting

They sure are

Maybe they didn't buy it because of tennis elbow?

It's probably just loose bits of glue, probably doesn't matter but I'd still probably send it back if it was that bad.

If you hear material moving around when you shake it you need to send it back. It’s not supposed to do that.

I have a Solaire and it doesn’t make that noise.

good to know, thanks

I have a Solaire that I bought used from eBay. It has the rattle, but it doesn’t affect my play. I got it for $100 in otherwise great condition so I’m not complaining

I’d send em an email. I never used To do that- I sent something to Players Pickleball after the paddle guard broke a bit. They just said to send it back and they will repair for free.

So…just reach out.

Prokinnex paddles do that to absorb shock. It’s really helpful for those with tennis elbow and wrist issues. If it’s not a prokinnex, look up to see if that paddles is something similar. And if it isn’t, e-mail the company and they’ll probably take care of you.

I bought a Joola Solaire and it made this noise from day 1.

The sound is from loose pieces of the polypropylene. Sometimes these pieces detach and it is a manufacture's defect.

Rattle means it’s broken.

Same. Joola Hyperion 16 CFS. Had to return it. Sucks because now the amazon sale is over and it jumped to over 200. Wouldn't accept a replacement unfortunately and I wasn't gonna pop the Joola warranty for under a week of use.

Yep. Send it back.

Edit: the points about the prokennex are good, even if it doesn't apply to your situation
