Blue is all over the place and highly unpredictable.

I feel everything they did looked very predictable tbh.

They simply failed to leave enough space before contact.

TomOV3•

Meeeeh, from the other car’s cockpitview it looks like a lot of swerving and possibly even reactionary blocking

23
Joates87•

After a sloppy bus stop they rejoin the racing line behind the lead car and in front of the trailing car... trailing car is just super anxious to get around blue and resume battling with the lead car I would presume.

I'd say it's what many on here would call "the vortex"...

Edit: I can kinda see why you'd say that but I still think it's more a case of following the racing line albeit slightly off pace. Ultimately blue would still be at fault regardless for squeezing down too much anyways.

Squidd-O•

This, from the trailing car's cockpit blue looks to be driving super erratically but from the overhead/blue's POV they're just following the racing line. Ended up with the squeeze all the same, putting blue at fault, but the trailing car was a bit desperate to find a gap for a bit there until the end where they found it up the inside so I wouldn't call it erratic driving

TomOV3•

I agree, it looks slightly like reactionary blocking but that’s also where the line is so let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. But then he did leave too little space like you said. Thanks for your insights :)

SolomonG•

No, it looks like a car following the racing line...

The only time he is off it is when he comes out of the chicane wide, but he comes back on line after he gets passed.

There's a lot of people commenting in here who don't seem to know the racing line into the boot at Watkins.

dandy443•

predictable as in i knew he was gonna cause a crash

Its_Your_Next_Move•

In the beginning I would definitely agree with you, but watch it again and you can see that he is just following the lead car. Since the lead car isn't fighting the gold car, the blue car put itself in the position of creating the mighty vortex of danger. Gold should have chosen a better time and place for that sketchy gap move.

WishCapable3131•

Opened the door, then shut it as soon as following car went for gap

adamor32•

Blue car at fault. Squeezed the inside car abit too much who could not go further left

35
SolomonG•

Front wheel to back wheel is usually not enough overlap to be deserving of space. The trailing car had even less overlap than that at braking point and turn in.

OP should have left room just for the sake of their own safety, but I don't think you can put the full blame on them.

7
adamor32•

You do have a point about overlap. However, he is still there whether op likes it or not. Risky, maybe, but from this angle, it looked like op had enough time to react, I may be wrong as this is not the best angle for me to judge that

F1_Bradley•

Blue car completely at fault. Even if we let the swerving on the straight go. Completely slammed the door shut when there was a car there pretending like it wasn't.

12
MyAntichrist•

What swerving on the straight? They 1:1 followed the lead car, setting up the entrance to the next corner. Car behind was going side to side.

7

Car behind is much faster.

It tries to get around but blue blocks it because all it cares about is sticking to the racing line instead of facilitating a fast clean pass.

This entire incident could’ve been avoided if blue wasn’t so focused on tHe rAcInG lInE but instead just let the car behind pass before the corner.

zivotidedalje•

Blue is not obliged to let him pass tho, its on the overtaking car to make a safe pass. Blue was on the racing line the whole time. Overtaking car lunged a bit, blue tightened the line a bit and because of the small overlap they both spun. Id say racing incident.

3
SuperSonic486•

This is also what i think, but everyone seems to think blue fault. At most id say blue left too little space during the corner in which the accident happened

1

Blue isn’t obliged to let the GTP go, it’s just in their best interest to do so. This post is yet another example of people doing stupid shit within the rules, instead of just doing the smart (ie the fastest and safest) thing.

Up to them. Obviously a racing incident, but one that should have never happened.

It looks like gold experiences a snap of oversteer and tries to correct, which is when both experienced the contact. So I'm struggling to determine whether that oversteer is due to netcode contact from blue (which would not be gold's fault since gold is on the curb) or just a mistake from gold (which would be their fault). It doesn't look like there would have been contact without the netcode, but blue certainly didn't leave any margin of error.

If the first oversteer was caused by contact (netcode or otherwise), it comes down to whether gold was close enough at corner entry to attempt a move. It's close, but in this case I think they were. They had gained a heap of time on blue in the past few seconds, and were right on the back of them going into the corner. Blue pulled ahead so that there was very little overlap during the corner, but neither driver could have safely assumed that based on the relative position of the cars before either hit the brakes. Therefore, I think blue turns in to the apex in this situation at their own risk.

Dornogol•

To me it looks like a case of the trailing car touching just a pixel of grass left to the curb, dunno how prototypes react to that but many cars in iracing will completely lose it when that happens in a corner

1
driftjp•

Although blue was all over the final line was clean and golden pushed and lost front grip for a second and reacted with a counter swing and ended up spinning both soo goldies fault imo.

DerpsiclesOP•

Wanted to leave this here for a while first without indicating which car I was to avoid bias - I was the following yellow/gold car. Spotter had said I had overlap (“car right”) entering the corner and I felt I was excessively squeezed.

Other guy told me “you shouldn’t be trying to pass there”, which made me laugh.

9
Lord_Ooze•

I love it when people say "you shouldn't be trying to pass there" bud if you make a big enough mistake, I'm sending it

9
RedWine2701•

"You shouldn't be trying to pass there"

Okay. Then drive better and don't make mistakes. I'll take up any opportunity you throw towards me.

natefromgsc•

Blue is at fault he gave the other car space on the inside and turned down on him mid corner

3
Its_Your_Next_Move•

In the beginning the blue car drives erratically from the aerial view. Blue is playing follow the leader - every move the lead car makes blue follows. Blue obviously doesn't know what to do. That said, I would like to see the gold car's view of what happened. The gold car should have known better. Gold car riding the grass caused the collision with Blue. Needless to say I would not pay to watch any of it. Edit: Just another example of the Vortex of Danger.

Blue driving like a blind monkey

Thought blue was going to take flight in the bus stop.

Lord_Ooze•

Blue is clearly piloted by a chimpanzee with his nuts in a vice but I'm going to call this one a racing incident.

Blue is wide and yes they are squeezing, but you see them back out right about the time yellow pushes further inside. I'm going benefit of the doubt and say we all rely on crew chief and in my opinion the call probably came at the moment yellow was going for it. Yellow was sitting in the vortex and had they carried more speed inside and that call left came .1s sooner I think everyone would have been alright.

If I had to I'd say incident responsibility to blue, but I think they did that best they could to not cause an incident in this corner.

1

Blue squeezed very very hard. They were trying to follow the line of white but u can’t really do that going 2 wide in a corner like that. I’d probably put blue at fault but gold did do a bit of over correcting.

1

Racing incident or white’s fault for me. White one is weaving, not blue. White is barely front wheels along back wheels into breaking zone which feels like lunge, blue did leave the space. If you go for the ever narrowing space, what do you expect.. but I can see from both POV it came as a surprise.

1
loxiw•

It's clearly a racing incident, caused by the blue car

1

Little bit unlucky, could have give more space. But i think its a race incident.

picking a line would be cool of you

1
Random_Videos_YT•

Blue car squished at apex while the other car was alongside. Blue fault

1

Blue car obviously slower not giving enough room to the faster inside car. The old give and take debate. If blue would have given a little more room you would have finished in a better place and with a better SR. Drivers get caught up in the moment and forget about the bigger picture. Me included, sometimes.
