My house has an older 80% natural gas upflow furnace, installed in 1994. Pretty standard setup. It works well and has been reliable, other than the spark ignition module went out once. I'm in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago. It gets cold here. My house is probably 70% 1994 construction, and 30% 1920s, with some added insulation.
25 years seems like a very good lifespan for a furnace, but I don't want to tempt fate, and I've been thinking about getting a more efficient furnace to lower the utility bills. The thermostat in my house is only a couple of years old and is two stage capable. I'm planning on being in this house for at least 20 more years.
Is there much of a difference
