TL;DR: Windows takes a very long time to boot, and once it reaches the login prompt, logging in causes it to just spin on "Welcome" endlessly.

My computer has been having issues since this morning and I'm at a bit of a loss on fixing it. I've tried everything I'm aware of, and I contacted a local repair shop and Microsoft support, both of whom were very nice but unable to help. I've detailed the issues below and I would really really appreciate help fixing it. Fingers crossed I don't have to reinstall everything 😞

What's going on:

  • Windows takes a long time to boot (several minutes) with a "Please Wait" screen and a spinner
  • Logging in via the prompt causes it to hang, with an endl

So I started my PKMS journey with Joplin back in high school. I switched to Logseq pretty quickly because I realized I was spending more time organizing and reorganizing my notes than actually using them in Joplin, and I've been using Logseq ever since.

That said, there have been a couple hangups:

  • The DB version sounds cool, but I keep hearing about sync and other features being closed source and I don't love that. One of the biggest things that pushed me towards Logseq rather than Obsidian was that Obsidian isn't FOSS
  • Logseq is amazing for what it's made for (dumping all of my thoughts into it and letting them organize themselves) but it doesn't do much else (TODOs work fine, queries

I have a Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen) audio interface, which I want to connect to a Yamaha KX-W421 cassette deck for listening to and recording cassettes.

I have a dual RCA cable, and I just ordered some RCA to 1/4" TS adapters to connect the outputs of the deck to the inputs of the interface, but I'm not sure how best to connect the outputs of the interface to the recording inputs on the deck.

Can I just buy a pair of TRS cables and any random 1/4" TRS to RCA adapters, or am I going to need something more specific?

I've been looking around online and people seem to recommend shorting the ring to the sleeve of the TRS connector for this type of connection, but I'm not clear on what that entails

At the moment I am using a catch-all address to forward all emails that get sent to my Cloudflare domain to my Proton inbox. I am considering hosting my own inbox and using an SMTP relay (Brevo, which I already use) to send mail. Unfortunately I've realized that Cloudflare does not offer any way to say "any emails sent to my domain should go to this IP" without disabling the Cloudflare Proxy, which I would rather not do. It seems like I can forward emails to a worker, but I can't find any documentation regarding an API that would allow me to pass the message on to my server. Is there any way to accomplish this?

Okay, so I want to host my own email, mostly so that I can send emails from [any]@mydomain.com (right now I can receive them easily with a wildcard on Cloudflare to my ProtonMail, but I can't send from them on a whim). I have a few questions regarding where to get started, but first, some context:

  • I don't need to self-host the server that actually handles the sending of emails, I'm happy to use something like Brevo instead so that I don't have to deal with IP reputation et al.
  • I want to be able to access my mailbox via a web client and potentially IMAP
  • I want to have as many things dockerized as is feasible, but I can spin up VMs if absolutely necessary

Now, questions:

So I've recently been messing around with the network topology of my lab. The whole thing is just a bunch of VMs and LXCs on a Proxmox server, which itself is connected to my home network. I decided to set up an OPNSense VM with an internal network, and then moved some of my other systems behind it. The goal was mostly just to learn how to use OPNSense, but I do like that it isolates my "lab network" from the actual home network with my family's smart speakers, laptops, phones, etc. (which lets me mess around with network settings without affecting anything that might affect them). This also results in a double NAT setup, where my lab machines go through both OPNSense and the home router. I

This is half a vent and half a request for advice.

I and 3 of my friends are planning to live in one of the GV apartments next year with 4 single rooms and a kitchen. The MyLife portal doesn't tell you whether the 4 singles you just picked for your group are in a room that also has a double, which is freaking me out. I'm 99% sure we're in a 4 single 1 double apartment and I have no clue how to fix that.

  1. Do we just room swap?
  2. How can we ensure the room we swap to is actually a 4S+K and not another 4S+1D+K???
  3. Why in the world is MyLife set up like this? It seems like the goal is to make you panic and select something ASAP and then prevent you from fixing things when you inevitably m

I really can't think of a good title for this on virtue of it being such a weird situation.

Context:

  • Many services using Authentik as an OIDC backend
  • Authentik started running slower and slower over time - no new users had been added during this
  • Other services also got slow
  • All web services are now just timing out
  • "Hm. I wonder if it's Authentik, that's always been a little slow"
  • cd authentik && docker compose down
  • Suddenly everything else is perfectly fine, no more timeouts, no more slowness

So there's the situation. Now for the questions:

  1. What on earth might be going on here? This is unlike anything I've had to troubleshoot in the past and searching the web and Auth

I've been looking at ways to implement a VPN across my homelab for some of my services. On a single host using Docker this would be super easy with Gluetun, but my lab is more complex than that. It's contained on a Proxmox server, which contains many LXCs and VMs, some of which are Docker hosts (prod environment, personal NAS, a couple LXCs that are just wrappers around Docker containers, etc). I want to figure out a way to have one host, ideally an LXC, connect to a Wireguard VPN (Proton, ideally, since I like their platform), and then tunnel several hosts (including Docker containers, LXCs and VMs) throughout the lab through that VPN connection. Not all

So I'm aware of all the challenges with selfhosting an email server, particularly with blacklists. That said, it would be nice to keep all of my emails within my own system. Out of curiosity, would there be a major downside to something like this:

  • Email is forwarded to some inbox at some provider via a Cloudflare wildcard (I already do this to get everything into my Proton inbox)
  • The contents of that inbox are pulled down to my own server via POP either at regular intervals or maybe via a webhook triggered on receipt of a new message
  • I connect to my server via IMAP and can read my emails
  • When I send an email, it gets sent via something like Brevo (which I already use for sending ema

So I'm looking into getting some open back headphones (currently looking at HiFiMan HE400se) and I know I'm definitely going to want a proper audio interface because the onboard audio on my PC is no bueno. I want one with a couple XLR inputs because I like recording (often in stereo) and want to be able to upgrade to a nice XLR mic (or two) from my Blue Yeti in the future without having to replace the interface. I've heard the 2i2 can struggle to drive some headphones, which has me a little bit worried since the HE400se is infamously hard to drive. Is there another interface in the $100-$120 range that would be better, or should the 2i2 be fine? Would I be better off getting the 2i2 and some

Ok so for some context, I have an OMV based NAS on my Proxmox server, and on it I store, among other things, my photos. I let Immich handle the folder organization, but I want the "Photos" folder in my personal SMB/CIFS share to essentially be a portal to the subfolder with the actual media within Immich's "upload folder" so that it can look like a regular "here's where my photos are" directory without all the clunkiness of containing the entire Immich base directory. It really should be read-only (from the perspective of clients on the share) because Immich doesn't enjoy being messed with, but if that's not easy to accomplish I could also just be careful to not set software up to write to i
