Partner’s driver’s license expired and she’s not interested in renewing it (expired as G2 so she will have to go through the whole thing again and do the test here in Ontario). Is it possible for her to simply delete it and provide another proof of address instead? Does this require an in-person visit to both the CBP and CBSA?

Had an interesting experience recently on a flight from DOH-YYZ in Business. IFE screen broke 20 mins into the flight so no screen, no call bell button, no power socket etc. Purser was apologetic and tried resetting a few times to no avail. Couldn’t switch seats as I was travelling with my partner and we had booked the middle ones deliberately. Flight itself was meh as well as service was quite slow (QR J is going downhill…) and the cabin was very noisy with people FaceTiming on speaker thanks to Starlink.

I emailed the feedback team asking for compensation but all I’ve gotten so far is “thanks for your feedback” - can’t help but think they need to do something more as a gesture. Any one ha

Insurance claim for more than policy limit?

:25px-Flag_of_Alberta:Alberta

For AB: 2 years ago a family member was involved in a minor fender bender. It was at a yield sign, the family member thought the car ahead had moved but they stopped and so was a very low speed minor rear end. No damage to the family member’s vehicle and very minor to the other one.

Anyways, as is typical for ambulance chasers, you hear back at the 2 year mark regarding a claim against you etc etc. He showed me the statement of claims, full of whatever you can find (suffered emotional trauma so that’ll be $150k, suffered unspecified health issues so that’s another $50k etc). Typical stuff so he told his insurance and it’s not exactly that worrying.

However, he did receive a letter from hi

Rented a semi detached in Midtown area. Should’ve done more due diligence obviously but both our and landlord realtors didn’t flag the construction project in front of the house. When we moved in, this was a quiet street and now it has seen the row of houses across from us being torn down, to be replaced with 2 giant condo buildings.

To make it worse, City of Toronto has decided to pave the street for the next 10 days so now we are dealing with constant construction noise from 7 am to 7 pm and the driveway being blocked. Have a newborn and this constant noise is highly disruptive.

Like I said, should have done more due diligence but I can’t help but feel the landlord’s realtor should have

Was planning on cancelling my Platinum this year and put me on my partner’s as a supplementary. My AF doesn’t post until July (have had this card for 3 years now so it matters less).

So question is can I keep my platinum until July and then also get my partner to issue me a supplementary one to take advantage of the adding a supplementary card offer?

So I know you can choose to take the deduction benefits for the contribution you make in the first 60 days in either tax year. Contribution reporting of course is mandatory.

But I keep seeing conflicting reports around this that CRA dinged people on “over contribution” if they chose to contribute more in the first 60 days of the year even if they are choosing to take their deduction benefits next year.

Situation I’m in: have maxed out my 2024 RRSP contribution from Feb-Dec. I have a bonus that’s coming Feb 2025 and I’m thinking of doing another 10k contribution there and have it applied when I do my 2025 taxes. Technically, this should be ok but I’m now trying to see if someone has any dat

Had a Bora Bora trip booked via Costco Travel but was browsing last night and saw that the Westin Bora Bora is now allowing award bookings with availability for a few weeks. 220k MB for 5 nights in January and February.

That completes our booking so sharing the redemption strategy used:

  • SFO to PPT on United Polaris (booked via Aeroplan, 55k points each)
  • PPT to LAX on Air Tahiti Nui (booked via Alaska, 60k miles each)
  • Stay at Westin Bora Bora for 5 nights via Bonvoy. As noted 220k points each.

Hope this DP helps anyone looking for a similar aspirational award booking.

Cheers!

Selling my car and dealer pulling the CARFAX saw 2 odometer readings on the same day: one is by an “independent source for odometer check” for 35,000 and the other right after by my tire shop stating 34,955. Didn’t visit any other shop that day so my tire shop must be it but dealer is claiming it has to be rectified by CARFAX before selling.

Any ideas on what the independent source might be? Emailed CARFAX but haven’t heard back.

Running into an odd situation. Took a 2 year lease in 2020 on a car (extremely attractive terms) which was via the car manufacturer’s finance arm and then decided to buy this out in 2022. At that time, the dealer worked out the buyout via a bank. I got a release of lien letter from the car manufacturer’s finance arm.

Now I’m in the process of selling my car and just realized that there’s no mention of the bank on the registration and as far as I can tell, the bank doesn’t have a lien on it. The finance rate I got back then is pretty attractive (sub 4%) so I’m entertaining the idea of just keeping that loan running and paying off the new car with the money I’ll get from selling my existing

this sub is amazing for travel advice. Thanks to all.

I unfortunately ruined a shirt of mine so wanted to buy a local replacement. I saw a bunch of linen fabric shirts in Santorini but they were priced at €25 each and I imagine Athens is cheaper. Anyone know where to find ok linen shirts here? I’m based out of Syntagma. Tried Monastiraki yesterday but didn’t find much and Armou has more food stores this side than clothing.
