I was watching the movie Sand Pebbles and noticed some sailors had their insignia on the right arm. I Googled it and came up with what I copied below. I would appreciate it if someone could translate it to civilianese and perhaps share some insight.

Beginning in 1913, Sailors in the seaman branch were required to wear their insignia on the right arm, while all other ratings wore their insignia on the left. This practice gave rise to the term "right arm rate," signifying a member of the seaman branch.

Thank you.

I have to take several tries to log in. Is this normal? Reddit's problem? My computer? Does anyone else have to try several times before being able to log in?

I was told that a bathtub with separate hot and cold water knobs is against code (USA). Does that sound right. I'm told I need a single combined hot/cold handle water control.

Thanks

there are now price tags that have scannable bar codes that if you buy three, price is $X. To get them, they have to be scanned with the Just 4U app. My app will not recognize/register if I scan them. Is there a trick to get it to scan. It scans "products" fine. Does anyone else have problems.

What does "acting like Lady Esther's horse mean." I Googled it and it was no help. It was a phrase used in the movie From Here to Eternity. The pertinent script follows:

  • Takin' a chance on twenty years in Leavenworth for makin' dates with the company commander's wife? And her actin' like, like Lady Esther's horse? And all because I got here on time.

Thanks
