Copper and lead were fine and are supposed to be improving further with updates to local regulations so I'm not concerned about that. We are on county water.

Minor problems: water tastes bad, white water spots and scale buildup on faucets with a slight green tint (which is why I included nickel above, but seems unlikely), unhappy hair in general

The Big Problems: Orange. Everywhere. On the faucets and tub, it is hard scale. In the dishwasher and toilets, it is slimy. I know iron is the problem, but not sure what the correct solution for us is. Se

I am running a choir for our homeschool group. Choir is something of a generous term, though. I expect to have around 12 students, few (if any) guys, and some of them don't have much musical background. The students are in grades 4th-12th (skewing to the younger side). On top of that, we only have 5 one-hour classes to prepare. I am also teaching an aural skills class to hopefully help some of them, but for logistical reasons I can't strictly require that class for the choir students.

Last year was our first year, and the kids really impressed me with their focus and effort, so I'm hoping to introduce some more classical repertoire if I can find anything easy and flexible enough for the gro

I'm new to CG; my hair has always been 2a but it's starting to look more like 2b after 4 pregnancies and starting treatment for Hashimoto's disease. My problem is that my hair takes forever to dry, so air drying isn't really viable (takes 8+ hours) and diffusing takes nearly an hour even if I dry with a (gasp!) towel first and I don't have the spoons to keep my arms up that long (thanks, chronic illness!). A few days ago I tried again to do the CG method, got too tired while diffusing, gave up, brushed it out, and braided it from almost dry with gel still in. The next day I had beautiful waves in the braided part and flat with frizz everywhere else. The waves still look fresh on day 4 but it

Hey guys, I've been on Reddit hiatus for a while but coming back to ask for a favor: can you help us upvote a product suggestion for more modest outfits from Wool& so that we can get their attention? I would love to do their 100 day challenge but don't see any dresses that would be modest enough without layering and it gets HOT where I live so that's not really an option for me. https://wooland.featureupvote.com/suggestions/486481/modest-crew-necklines-on-longer-dresses

What do you all do to communicate assignments to your kids? Our kids really liked Joon, but we don't have enough tablets for each kid right now, so it got dropped because they couldn't both look at their to-do list at the same time. They really prefer the digital format, as do I. I've considered Google Classroom, but that isn't ideal for us because whitelisting on our parental controls software is by domain and I don't want to whitelist all of Google. Does anyone know of any other browser based options for assigning tasks and marking them as completed?

My health is kind of a mess right now. Hypothyroidism, diabetes (which I assume is T2 but my PCP refused to test it, referring me to Endo instead, which I can't see until Oct), Umbilical/incisional hernia, obese... it's not great. I went through Paloma Health to get treatment for my hypo this side of October and we talked about TTC. My doctor was very helpful, but one of the things she recommended was trying to get my A1C and fasting glucose lower. The last time I tested they were at 6 and 110 respectively. We have three living kids (and one stillbirth) and we were hoping to have one more kid, but with needing to delay the hernia repair until after we are done having kids and needing to get

Girls' clothes?

Discussion

Anyone have any good recs for where to buy girls' clothes? We don't require them to dress as modestly as I do, but they do have some personal preferences that tend that way. They are very thin and tall (unlike me) so my typical method of sizing up for length doesn't work so well for them. They like their shoulders covered because they don't like sunburns and we have problems with pants falling down so they prefer dresses, but I think if I could find a pair of longer (like board shorts length) denim shorts they'd love them. They have lots of graphic tees they love, they have a hard time finding things that they can wear with them. They've even started wearing spaghetti strap dresses under the

After a few months with a CGM, I'm discovering something that fit well with my intuition but goes against everything I've been learning: Sugar seems to be hitting my blood sugar waaaaaay more than starches with the same amount of carbs. I've been eating an entire large bowl of whole wheat pasta and it affects me less than eating a tiny amount of carbs in the form of sugar in something like a dressing. But then, I have one brand of normal ice cream that seems fine for me. I don't know what to make of it. I know different people have different reactions to different foods, but this seems extreme.

What oddities have you found in how you respond to food?

My very mathy child is getting ready to start algebra and geometry. However, she doesn't know her times table and is getting frustrated at how long higher level problems take when she has to work it out from scratch each time she sees multiplication and/or division (she knows the steps for multi-digit multiplication and long division and is using them to solve harder problems, but it takes forever). Does anyone know of a genuinely fun math facts game that I could get for her?

What was the social etiquette regarding giving and receiving invitations in the nineteenth century in Western Europe and the States? Particularly for something like a dinner party or banquet. How did etiquette change over the course of the century? Are there any extant examples of written invitations? Were they more formulaic like wedding invitations, or were they more like a letter? What sort of wording was used in English-speaking countries?

I feel like my perspective of this topic has been excessively colored by historical fiction but I wasn't able to find a lot of real info when I Googled it. I recognize that the question is quite broad and welcome answers pertaining to narrower time pe

My husband and I do things online with friends a couple nights a week. The kids love having some nights where they get to do their own thing, but they have been asking if they can have some school to do in the living room for those nights. I would like to put together a box of stuff to pull out for them. Suggestions of what I should put in? What workbooks or other activities have your kids found fun? Constraints: low mess, no particularly bad choking hazards (my toddler handles writing utensils and paper well, but no beads or anything like that just in case), can be done on the living room floor or couch. Kids are 7, 6, and 2; the older two are excellent readers and are currently teaching th

I'm sad and frustrated. I asked my doctor for antibody testing for both diabetes and Hashimoto's and they said no and that I will have to discuss that with the Endo. I can't see the Endo for the first time until October, so in the meantime I'm stuck with trying to figure out why I'm having low blood sugar despite not taking any diabetes meds and paying for CGMs to try to catch it before symptoms start getting bad. I'll be fine, it's not a medical emergency, but I'm very frustrated.

Mice got to our boxes of kids' books we had in storage for a while after moving. We will be rebuilding our library from scratch. Obviously, we will be repurchasing favorites, but if you could start from scratch, what books would you end up purchasing? We have a 7yo, 5yo, and 2yo (7 and 5 reading at a high level).

What eclipse resources have you found? We're diving all in this week to get ready for Monday and my kids are begging for more to watch and do.

Mystery Science has an eclipse lesson that's really good.

Smarter Every Day has a video on the main channel and a longer one on his second channel that goes over a bunch of the things you might see and a bit of the science behind them.
