Me and my family moving to Japan soon, Kyoto. I looked for housing and found some 3LDK options that would be doable. However, interior design here requires knowledge on how to maximise the plase and in general make it comfy. How common is to have an interior designer helping you?

If you know any around the are I'd appreciate.

Anyone moved to Japan recently, what do you miss the most and what would you recommend to bring from Malaysia?

There is hope after more than 10 years of battle

Sharing actionable insight (Rule2)

I come from a post Soviet country and had a very traumatic childhood. There was abuse, poverty, and a lot of generational trauma shaped by the culture and the place where I was born.

My teenage years were especially hard. I grew up without my parents and was raised by my grandparents. Anxiety was always there, even when I managed to function on the outside. At 16 I got pulled into drugs, alcohol, and the wrong crowd. Somehow I made it through, but by 23 I ended up in a psychiatric ward. That was the moment I realized how serious things had become, especially coming from a place where mental health is rarely understood or supported.

I started a long 14 year journey with therapy, medication,

Hi — I’m moving to Kyoto with my family and I’m an avid baker. We will have around eight weeks to find a new home. I already have a list of requirements, and I also want to make sure the kitchen will work for my baking. I understand that having a built-in oven in a rental apartment is probably unrealistic, but I can look for the right amperage to support a countertop microwave/convection oven.

I bake breads, lasagnas, grills, etc. here in Malaysia and want to do the same in Japan as much as possible. What would you recommend when searching for an apartment where I can integrate all of this? Recommendations for ovens and other equipment are also appreciated.

Hi everyone... this is a bit of an off-my-chest post, so please bear with me.

I was recently accepted to a top-tier university in Japan, and I’m now a first-year student here. Academics have always been central to my life, even though I took a less linear path and spent years working in education policy and teaching on a side, before starting my PhD. I’m 35, studying in a different country and culture, and I’m genuinely motivated. I’m not coming into this naively, I understand how demanding this work is, and I’m grateful to even have the opportunity.

What has surprised me, though, is meeting so many peers who seem largely disengaged. Some are in their fourth year and still working on a r

I am in my yearly 30s, did sugaring for some time. However, now due to my work limitations I'm on a break, but would like to stay in the loop, without meeting, but chatting, maybe some pics?

Any of you did that successfully? If that helps I work and live in Japan.

Hi!

We’re about two months away from moving to Kyoto, Japan. I love cooking, we have some picky eaters at home, and baking is a big part of how I cook. I’ve started researching what to check before renting an apartment, and the kitchen is our top priority.

I’d love to have a built-in gas oven, but it seems more realistic to postpone that until we have our own place. In the meantime, for avid home cooks in Japan—especially those who like grilling and baking—what kind of kitchen setups work well for you?

Besides the oven, what else is important to look for in a Japanese apartment kitchen?

For example:

  • Gas vs IH cooktop
  • Space and ventilation
  • Counter and storage space
  • Electrical
