Guys, guys, I predicted Henry’s line “we are one” way before he said it. I whispered it as he started talking about the mind flayer. And when he said “We…” I got so excited! I slowly said “are…one” with him in unison! Isn’t that fun?
I know about the books having a lot of humour, satire, social commentary, mystery, and little bit of nonsense, which draws me in towards this series. I also get sad really really easily, but I want to read this, so I wanna be prepared if it’s bad. It’s for children tho, it can’t be THAT bad right?
!Don't tell us what to interpret from a show you purposefully made ambiguous. What if people assume differently from you? Most writers heavily guard what their personal opinion is of an open ending, because it affects the impact the product has. You made a choice that made it past the finish line. Don't scamper and add buts now to clarify what you actually wanted to say, and then go right back and tell us to take away what we want to take away. !<
TLDR: I’m someone who’s sad about El. If you have gripes about the military plot holes or any of those technical stuff, I’m not really talking about those. I’m talking about the characters as if they’re normal people.
The show is saying this is the first time El had the autonomy to do what she wanted. She didn’t tho. She was forced to do it because she couldn’t see an alternative. The same as S4 when Owens asked her if she wanted to go back to the lab. She was forced to do it for the people she loved. She has made this same “choice” over and over throughout the show, her death sacrifice wasn’t any different.
The actual time she made a choice was for example, in S2 by breaking Hop’s rule
Idk yall. I feel sad for El. The entire show right until the finale fakeouts established that this isn’t a show where main characters died. I have the liberty to imagine a happy ending for them down the line… but still. I’m so so sad. Baby Mike’s teary eyes at the end of season 1, only to see it again at the last scene of season 5. Goddammit.
I’ll be working really hard to convince myself of that happy ending. It’s fiction after all. Once I’m done with that, I can look back at this show fondly. I’m sorry, I can’t imagine them suffering like this. This isn’t real life, so it doesn’t need a real life ending, not for me.
We never saw Dr Owens again, what a bummer. Whelp, I'll say he called backup and survived the explosion, MUHAHAHAHA. And Kay doesn't care about him, so whatevs. No party poopers here. We're celebrating Owens spending a completely isolated and boring retirement.
!Mike. I don't want any negativity, I don't care what gripes you have. Finn's acting was good, I cried, and I want closure for him. My worst fear is open endings, and even though this isn't an open ending for me, it is for Mike. I'm lucky there was an overall great ending, but how is he gonna move on if he doesn't KNOW she's fine. Give me a Hopper speech 😭 !<
TLDR: what made this film special for you?
To the generation who this movie was initially for, I know it is a beloved and nostalgic classic. Please don’t take this as me saying the film is bad, it isn’t for me but I like seeing what makes something special for others.
I was looking for indie-ish laid back movies that are effortlessly funny, but also has some sort of commentary about real life, after watching Dinner in America, and one an actor I like said it was one of his favourites.
I don’t know why, but Superbad just didn’t click with me. I wanted to stop watching halfway through, but went through anyways just cuz.
The humour seemed too forced, and I didn’t laugh out loud once until
Things like personal hygiene, regular cleaning of surroundings, interacting with people, etc. Basically a book with things that a parent would teach their kids, but for an adult.
Look what being in the Abyss did to Vecna, but Holly’s running and breathing normally. This out of everything is the largest pet peeve for me cuz what are the odds they just find another dimension completely atmospherically safe for earth things.
!I've been seeing a lot of mistrust in Kali in this sub, and I completely agree. She's definitely the traitor and gonna be the main issue next episode. I'm halfway through ep 7, there's no sign of the Mind Flayer, but we have an obvious new enemy (we'd be glad to be wrong but I don't think we are). I had seen a lot of great theories about the Mind Flayer being the ultimate big bad, but we've been in the Abyss and nada. Just Vecna like a lost kid. !<
!If the finale just turns out to be a formulaic heist with Kali being the climax, and an El sacrifice or something, I'll honestly be a teensy bit disappointed. (I will say, the Steve/Dustin and Nancy arc is good so I can't be too mad.)!<
They rarely need a scene to be abhorrent. When I look at Vecna I'm like meh, but Dr Kay? Oof. Fantasy can't beat reality.
Also, I haven't seen finished The Bridge yet, but no sign of the MF? If that show up I'm gonna be so bummed.
