I was shocked to see an ad for these scam plans in this month's Costco Connection. These insurance plans do not save US taxpayers any money compared to regular Medicare and deny healthcare for seniors.

Has there been a change in Costco leadership or have they always been ethically challenged?

What's the quality control like of GOS? I am just amazed at how buggy the Android patches on Pixels are considering it's Google's own freaking hardware. It's like they see how crappy Microsoft updates are and are trying to one up them ..

So we are still waiting for patches for BIND for the July security bulletins. No version of RHEL appears to have a supported version of BIND so someone must be doing code diffs for new releases and figuring out how to backport fixes to old versions of BIND. Meanwhile my BIND servers are vulnerable still...

So I heard about hardened images from Red Hat. I don't do containers and maybe this is the use case for adoption. I checked and sure enough there is a BIND image. The details show it has 0 CVEs so you might think this is the way. But wait... This is for 9.18 which is end of life so there are no updates from ISC after June so there are no CVEs because no one is looking at the code. ISC web

We are seeing emails getting bogged down for more than 13 minutes on Proofpoint systems. Plain emails, not ones with attachments since there is currently a TAP issue. Delay is seen leaving pps.filtered which shows 127.0.0.1 on headers.

So I was not amused today when I found my ability to run traditional VMs via QEMM/KVM no longer worked and apparently this was done on purpose. 8-( I run Bazzite because it just worked for me...I test drove numerous distros when the bastards at Microsoft came out with Win11 and each distro provided friction in some way...I found Bazzite and did NOT have the friction!

I followed the suggestion of many others to rebase to Bazzite-DX to get my VM working again and spent the better part of 90 minutes going through the process and trying to get things working again without any success. I found the article below and eventually backed out each of the changes I made while running Bazzite-DX and r

Each year the process for updating the Weblogic server's certificate is simple. Remove the user certificate from the ewallet using the orapki commands and then add the new certificate since the intermediate. But today I learned GoDaddy is giving out new SSL certificates via a new intermediate and root CA. My Windows PC at work knows nothing about this CA. But I didn't think it would matter...

So I removed the intermediate and root certificates from the ewallet using the -trusted_cert option instead of -user_cert option I normally use. I then added the new root CA and intermediate and finally the user certificate. Firefox is happy, but Chrome and Edge are not until I add the root CA

I am working with Docker for the first time and getting stuck with the atmoz/sftp image. I looked at inside the container there were no permissions so I adjusted the users file to specify the folder that was used in the prior examples that were more simple. I am just scratching my head at what I am missing for the example to work "as is"? Obviously I replaced <host-dir> with the host folder and I also changed the syntax to reflect that I am running selinux. The container runs but you cannot upload a file.

docker run \

-v <host-dir>/users.conf:/etc/sftp/users.conf:ro \

-v mySftpVolume:/home \

-p 2222:22 -d atmoz/sftp

users.conf contents

bar:abc:1002:100

As of today when I try to use the free xml to report tool, it sends me back to the home page. I have used this for work for years as I just need to upload a handful of reports just to make sure all is well. There is some verbiage there now saying the free reports are for personal use only but I have no idea when that was added.

I am on the hunt for a similar tool... Looks like most free tools have disappeared like the one from the UK that I never used or are very basic and don't do simple things like a dns lookup.

Three of our SSL certs renewed last night but one lost its www SAN that had been standard on SSL certificates for as long as I have worked with them. Has this happened to you? Did you get someone at GoDaddy to fix their defect?

After a painful phone call they transferred me to IT Support which is a third party company that charges to help people install their certificate...8-(

I discovered by accident last week that some of our emails to Microsoft's consumer domains like msn.com, hotmail.com, outlook.com, etc are being rejected. Once I found the issue I did some research and the issue has been ongoing for the last 30 days (as far back as I can go). The NDRs say that SPF has passed, DKIM has failed and DMARC has passed and includes a link to a web page that indicates if you send over 5000 emails per day you get extra scrutiny and emails must pass all three.

Are others seeing this issue? You might want to check some of your shared mailboxes that interact with the public. In our case none of our e

Here in the States we have outlet stores where brands sell their products direct to consumers. Sometimes they are hawking the obsolete/prior version of something, reconditioned items, returned items and even items made with defects. Based on the sorts of e-readers on Amazon it looks to me like the Chinese manufacturers have found a way to sell the the defective products that would never sell in their country to us "dumb Americans". Even worse it looks like some of these items are priced orders of magnitude higher than what a Chinese consumer would theoretically pay if they were not junk. ::sigh::

So how often do others have like excellent service over 100Mbps crawl to around 3 Mbps at 10PM local time? ::Sigh:: For years the service was unavailable... they make it available and it's horrible...

Are there any CURRENT books for those of us who like to read, type, experiment to learn something new? Call me silly but I should be able to type the example and have it work (and download the examples to compare if having an issue)...Bonus points if the publisher is smart enough to use BLACK text on the paper...not the icky grey that seems to be so popular with the cool kids.

I have a paperweight that that I obtained a while back from O'Reilly "Head First Swift" that the first example does not work in Playgrounds. No errata on the O'Reilly site, the author's don't even list the book on their site so not sure what that says about them. Ugly grey text as well which is painful to read.
