The U.S. really needs to require online cancellations. I was on the phone for nearly a half hour with Spectrum. I refused to answer their ridiculous questions, I simply repeated that I wanted to cancel and they could help me or transfer me to someone who could. They did not transfer, but instead tried to offer me some extremely low 12 month rates. I really don't care how cheap it is, I'd rather not deal with their horrible customer service games every year. Good grief.

I always book directly with hotels. Twice this year, I have gotten emails supposedly from hotels, saying to click this link to provide more information, or your reservation will be cancelled. The first one was very convincing because I received it on the first day that I arrived at the hotel. The second one was for a hotel that is six months from now. Both hotels said this is a scam attempt and to delete. I imagine they both must have been hacked? They are smaller hotel chains in Europe.
