For months I’ve had a check ending light after taking my 335i to a mechanic (who I’m never going back to). They replaced the starter motor, and forgot to reconnect the fuel evaporation control valve.

Yesterday, a mate and I did some work on the car before doing a skidpan day today - installed a fumoto oil valve, oil change, replaced the intake manifold gaskets, installed a VRSF charge pipe, but most importantly, plugged in that damn cable again. Cleared the codes with BimmerLink, of and on again, error gone and engine light off.

Feels good.

I just got an email and notification that my subscription price is nearly doubling, from $12.99AUD to $22.99AUD. I’d be somewhat ok with this if the issues the rewrite had introduced had been fixed, but apart from the crashes, they’re still there.

I write to Marco after the big rewrite and carefully laid out all the issues I was having; I’m a software engineer so I had a pretty good idea of why things like priority podcasts weren’t actually being added to the top of my playlists, among many other issues. I put quite a lot of time into being clear about all the issues to make the job of fixing them easier. I never heard anything back, and more than a year later I still have to do thing like

A stupid question about an on camera mic

How do I do this? / What's This Thing?

I recently bought a Saramonic Vmic Stereo on sale, which as the name suggests, outputs a stereo signal.

It has two capsules marked L and R

  • L points 45° to the right
  • R points 45° to the left

This means that sound to the left of the mic is heard more clearly through the right channel, making everything feel backwards - if you point to mic to the right of a sound source, it sounds like it’s on the right of the mic, not the left.

I’ve confirmed the signal from the L capsule comes out of the left channel by tapping on the capsule itself.

Is this how it’s supposed to work? It feels pretty useless for actually recording stereo sound, or is it purely intended to record audio r
