Basically, I really enjoy the idea of populating my game with great number of different xenotypes, but if I just started adding every highly up voted one from the workshop I'll very quickly get overwhelmed with the amounts of stuff they add. Nearly every new xenotype mod seems to come with its own research tree, crafting benches, overpowered equipment, and overall seem to be balanced around playing themed run with only that xenotype enabled.

What are the most polished mods that add just the new xenotypes without all the extra stuff? Or at least with the extra stuff being limited to a couple new items instead of a whole armory?

I understand its most likely a balance decision, but I hate how I can board a ship and slaughter everyone on board, without it taking any damage, and after the battle is won it just... Disappears into the ether.

I'd rather game restricted the ways you can acquire ships with skeleton crew requirements(if you have more than one ship you have to have at least minimum crew to move at all, not just to avoid a movement penalty) or companion limits(made it so you need a companion to captain every ship you capture) than the game just randomly deciding if I'm allowed to get the thing I just captured.

A core theme of the game, and the act 3 with its endings specifically, seems to be about Grief and the healthy way to deal with it. Aline couldn't cope with the death of her beloved son so she escaped to the painting he created, and tried to recreate her ideal life in there, to escape reality. Obviously, its not a healthy way to cope with loss, she was just playing pretend with people who she made to look and act like her true family, the family she abandoned. I completely agree that for a healthy outcome she should leave the canvas and recover in the real world.

But the game then goes and tries to apply the same exact logic to Alicia/Maelle, and, in my opinions, it falls completely flat wh

If I make my companion a surgeon, do they still affect casualties after they've been knocked out in battle? What about captains with traits that buff troops?

I don't think quartermaster gets disabled when they're injured, but they're also only provide bonuses on the world map so maybe the behaviour there is different?

Consistent Headshots

General Game Questions/Help

I keep seeing people here say that they consistently headshot mechs the moment they enter their LoS. Ive never managed such feat, even with completely stationary mech, with a supposedly giant cockpit hitbox, with gauss/ppc thats supposed to be good for it.

Do people who talk about cockpit kills as a goal, not an RNG thing that happens once in a blue moon use aim assist? Or maybe a zoom mod that allows you to zoom beyond 2x? Or is it simply a question of skill, and it will come to me if I ever reach thousands of hours in this game?

I feel like as is mechs in general are too tanky for me. Even light mechs can tank hits I feel they should have zero chances of surviving. Feels weird to unleash alpha from something like King Crab into a locust and for it to just run away mostly okay-ish. The situation is even worse with heavier mechs.

I understand that it's mostly a matter of taste, but I do wish for weapons to be more deadly, both for me and for the enemies I face.

Closest thing I've found is this https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries/mods/109 but with how old it is id be surprised if it still worked.

Instead of drop podding in the middle of your base some of the moderately advanced raiding factions should be able to land their own gravship in your map. It could work like a "mechanoid cluster" but organic version. Doesn't even have to be as elaborate as the one players build, could just be a small "cosmic crackhouse" with some turrets slapped on it, maybe a mortar too. Sounds perfect for the "space pirate" factions. A boarding vessel packed full of high on go juice pirates.

It would also provide raiding diversity for player factions that decide to permanently live in space, because right not its just non stop drop pods.

Could make their version of a grav engine to be rigged to explode

There's a massively difference between the work speed of level 5 builder and level 20 builder. Quality of items produced by level 20 crafter are guaranteed to be extremely high, while someone with only 7 in it would struggle to produce anything above normal. Having someone with high social managing your recruitment and ideology conversion makes such a massive difference it's insane.

I cannot tell the difference between level 5 shooter and level 20 shooter. Other factors, such as quality of their weapons, their current health, their implants, current weather and the cover/distance have such huge impact on the accuracy that shooting skill just doesn't change much.

I've heard the common adv

Lords only attack/chase the player if they have an advantage in balance of power, and they have perfect information about party composition of their enemies. While that sounds logical on paper, why attack someone who's stronger than you, in reality it feels really gamey. It would've been more realistic, imo, if lords tried to initiate combat if there was a reasonable power difference between the armies, even if it wasn't in their favour.

"We have 100 well trained warriors, while the enemy has 110! Time to run away like a coward across the entire map, and once finally confronted let's pretend we're not at war and hope they are going to go away! Wait, the enemy has only 90 warriors, attack!

I'm trying to play the game in a "natural" way, that is, in a way where I try and treat the world, and tactics my characters use, as it was a real world they where living in. I find it more fun that way.

I am now approaching the end game as far as training my combat crew goes, and the obvious way to make them even better is skeleton limbs. But I don't really want to go about it in a meta way, I'd rather the loss of limbs happened naturally, instead of just sending them to cannibals on purpose or willingly sticking them in a peeler.

So far the only character that got an upgrade was Beep, he managed to loose both legs shortly after getting out of Mongrel, before I trained him up. But he's a

If I use it after the enemies are already attacking me - which happens 90% of the time since I didn't invest in stealth at all - even after the talent worked successfully they don't switch targets and just keep attacking me. Best case scenario they sheath their weapon for a second, then pull it out again and attack me.

Apparently that's a known issue, and its often advised to use it from stealth, but doesn't it make it totally useless unless you're playing as a stealth mage?

Description of the talent doesn't mention anything like that either, so i just feel like I wasted talents on something I'm never going to use...

So, I've installed GOG version of the game, then grabbed HD mod from the official site. Everything works great, except in combat there's no music at all - start of the battle jingle plays and then dead silence. If I alt tab to the desktop and then back then the generic global map song will start playing instead.

I've tried launching the game without the HD mod and music works there, so its gotta be the mod, but I've tried looking it up online and no one else seems to have encountered my issue...

Anyone here had that?
