So not sure how to proceed.

Hardware:

  • X10SDV-8c-TLN4F
  • X13SAE-F (i5-13600)
  • 2x Think System ST550 (dual Xeon 4114); got both of these for free.

I really got to like the Xcp-ng/Xen Orchestra combo over Proxmox. Especially the, in my opinion, better implementation of cloud-init.

Unfortunately Xcp-ng and the Intel 13th gen don't really like each other very much.

Now my initial plan was to use the X10SDV as my TrueNAS but if I want to stick with Xcp-ng I seem to be better off to us the X13SAE for the TrueNAS shared storage - it's way overkill though.

Alternatively I could stick with Proxmox as it seems to play "well" with the new Intel CPUs.

All connected with 10G

Tldr: switch back

Happy new year everyone!

Due the joys of Dengue Fever I'm stuck at home and my ability to look at a screen are severely restricted so I'm looking for some good podcast recommendations.

I already finished my entire backlog of the LNL shows and self hosted so open for suggestions.

Thank you

TLDR: Alternative to Intel 13th Gen + Supermicro X13SAE-F when used market isn't an option?

So I've been holding off upgrading my infrastructure for over a year now. Currently I have the following:

  • Synology DS1512+ (over 10 years old) only backup duty now
  • Supermicro X10SDV-8c (over 6 years old) virtualization host
  • IBM X3560 M3 (over 10 years old) not in use - too noisy and old

I intend to give away/scrap the IBM, turn the X10SDV into my new NAS and replace it with a Intel 12th or 13th Gen (anywhere between a i5-12400 and i7-13700; don't need more) on a Supermicro X13SAE-F - I almost bought the Gigabyte equivalent board but cancelled the order after finding many comments on instabili

So I'm off to Japan in a week for a road trip and wondered if I should take another/additional lens with me. I have the Sony 20mm f1.8 and Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 which are definitely going into the bag. Not sure what else to take with me.

Options:
Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 - heavy
Samyang 85mm f1.4 II
anything else?

What would you bring?

EDIT: Camera is A7IV

Cab rant

discussion

Is it just me or is the situation getting worse by the day? 90% of the cab drivers refuse to use the meter, Grab, Bolt and what not one can wait for hours for someone to agree to the trip which is also double to triple the regular fare. TukTuk drivers I rarely try as they even tried to charge silly amounts even during the pandemic. We haven't reached anywhere close to peak tourist numbers or season and it's already nearly impossible to get around.

I don't get the drivers they seem to prefer to sit around or drive around in traffic rather than make some money if they can't rip you off.

End of rant. Thanks for reading if you did.

Hello everyone

it's a long shot but maybe someone knows a good consulting company to test and recommend solutions for insulating a bedroom or two in a condo?

Unfortunately we have to deal with a lot of impact noise and vibrations from our upstairs neighbour (he was on vacation when we moved in and knows about the noise but habits die hard).
There's false ceilings throughout the condo but it's only cosmetic (no decoupling and no insulation).
I'm aware fixing it won't be cheap hence why I'm looking for a consulting firm that has the necessary equipment, knowledge and experience to test the current situation and tell if it's worth to try and fixing it.

We like the condo a lot and would v

Hello everyone

I'm in need of some assistance due to information overload. Apologies for a long read - I'll try to make it as structured as possible. TLDR at the bottom.

As my VMUG license just ran out and I'm not looking to extend it I'm planning a total rebuild of my homelab. I want to use the opportunity to change a lot. Especially focusing on automation, Gitops and IaC. The later is where I struggle.

Some more text as I think some background is helpful.
I'm currently running one server for production and aiming to switch most of my services to run on K3S. These services I intend to deploy through Portainer using my custom git repositories as the source. This part I have mostly figur

Hello everyone

tldr: looking for a four legged frame with a weight capacity in the range of 160kg to 300kg (350 to 660lbs) - towards the upper limit would be preferred as a cross brace at the rear legs a bonus.

I am in Thailand and looking for a standing desk frame for my tabletop. My main issue is weight.
A quick estimate of my usual gear and the solid wood tabletop is around 100kg (220lbs).

I found a few companies that offer four legged frames (ULPLIFT V2-Commercial 4 leg, Evodesk Pro and Zen Space Desk (Pro+) Heavy Duty 4 leg) - unfortunately I am at a loss trying to find anything similar that can be locally or China sourced (preferably through shopee or lazada, as importing anythin

Hello everyone

something a bit different. I've just arrived in Bangkok several weeks ago, just as I've been diagnosed with an issue related to one of my thigh bones. This means I'm now on crutches for the foreseeable future (+/- one year).

Usually I spend my first 1-3 months in a new city exploring the neighbourhood and city, depending how different it is to what I'm used to. This is unfortunately out of the picture for the time being due to my impairment as well as the fact that pretty much everything is closed down right now anyway (which makes it a little more difficult again as I can't drop into the odd cafe to rest).

As you might read between the lines I'm not exactly sure myself wha
