CannotTypeForShit

I just got 2 lbs of Sulawesi Seletan peaberry in from Sweet Maria's. It seems that anything I do to this bean, it just skips right over the first crack, maybe one or two pops, but then goes straight into smoking and crackling. I've tried slowly and steadily increasing the heat, I've increased the initial temp, I've tried quickly coming up to ~380° and then slowly up to 400°-410°. I've tried half cup and quarter cup batch sizes. Color wise the beans seem to go from cinnamon to producing oil so quickly. This is the oddest bean and if anyone has some insights that would be greatly appreciated.

After practicing my patience on the french press for a while, I decided to find a cleaner cup through the Chemex. And while this device is wonderful on the few brews I have done so far, I have some questions about a few things.

• How the hell do I give this thing a good, deep cleaning?

• I can't seem to find the right type of grind, exactly how fine or coarse should I go for the Chemex?

• I know I'm supposed to pour a little water over first and let the coffee bloom up for a little. How much water should I use and for how long should this be? Is there anything I should see/smell?

That's all I really want to know for now, thank you in advance for responses.

Pretty much the title. My guy has become very inconsistent, and I have heard good things about the quality of buds from the Silk Road. I'm not concerned about my safety all that much (decriminalized in my state, also I'm not an idiot), but I just want to know if anyone has had success in purchasing greens from the deep web.
