So I'm really not an Apple person but I've always thought it was very interesting that MacOS is based on a UNIX-like open source foundation called Darwin.
I'm wondering why there haven't been more desktop distros based on Darwin. It seems like meeting maintained by a company like Apple would do a lot of the heavy lifting with device and application compatibility (.dmgs) as well as Homebrew for package management. Wouldn't this be the best option for Mac users looking to switch to an open source operating system?
Not saying that this should replace Linux or that it would even count as a Linux distro (though they could possibly share some code) but I'm just curious why more hasn't been done
I've been daily driving PopOS for a week or so and have been having issues with my mouse cursor. I've developed some partial workarounds but I'm wondering if I should file an official bug report and if there are other solutions I can use in lieu of a patch.
My system is a 2022 Razer Blade Stealth 13.
Issue #1 - sometimes when I resume from suspend after closing/opening the laptop lid the mouse cursor for my built-in touchpad will not move. I'm usually still able to log back in by typing in my password and once I do so I'm able to left and right click with expected behaviors, but the cursor remains in place. Closing the lid again and reopening the laptop up sometimes fixes the issue but not
Hello Firefox community (and hopefully team members),
I'd like to start by saying that I deeply appreciate Mozilla Firefox and have been really heartened by some of the recent improvements, particularly multi-profile management.
I'd like to ask if there are any updates on the request to sync custom search engine settings through Firefox Sync and Mozilla Accounts.
As many are aware, this feature was requested at least 17 years ago and many times since:
I've just installed Pop_OS on my Razer Blade Stealth 13 (can't remember what year but it's maybe like 2022 or so).
I can hit Caps Lock key once which turns on the little light indicator on the key and everything is fine, but when I hit it a second time it's reliably hanging my system, and not just the desktop environment as I can't even break out to the terminal with Ctrl + Alt + F4.
Hey System76 / Pop_OS team!
I've recently installed Pop_OS 24.04 with the new COSMIC desktop environment and so far I'm loving it! Despite hearing it wasn't stable yet, I'm finding this is one of the smoothest new Linux installations I've experienced.
I wanted to report one small issue that's maybe not technically a bug but I imagine could perplex some users and certainly required some configuration for me.
I'm a heavy user of alt + left/right arrow to go backwards/forwards in my browser history when using a web browser (I'm using Firefox but it's standard across all browsers I'm aware of). I noticed that this wasn't working when using the right alt key which is the one I almost always us
