Hey guys I (17F) have my first ever date in an hour and I'm so so so nervous.... we're going out to lunch and then going to chill at her place. We met at a library and have been talking every day and she's so smart and I just love having her around.....

Any advice?

Hello!!

I'm wondering if anyone here has successfully been to a music festival before. I'm going to my first one tomorrow and don't really know how to prepare. Thankfully it's outdoors and on the smaller side of things (it's a local festival). What should I bring sensory wise? I'm already bringing my headphones and earplugs.

All advice appreciated!

Thank you!!

How to respond to friendly teasing

🫶🏻 Friendships/Relationships

Hello!

So I (17F) have this friend who I've been getting closer with. He does this thing where he'll tease me and say embarrassing things (it's well established that it's all in good fun and not intended to harm anyone). As an example, one time we were in a group talking about a kid at our school who cussed out a teacher and he'll say "Guys remember when Cat did that last year?" (everyone knows I didn't cuss anyone out). As a second example, we (again, in a group) were talking about a really unattractive and weird character from a game we all like and he was like "lol guys Cat is always talking about how much she loves that character"

To be clear, he does this to everyone and not just me.

Hello!!

I have a friend who's a lot better socially than I am, and they help me with my social skills.

I'm not sure if this is just a teen thing (I'm 17) but I tend to model my social behavior after them and think about what they would do or say in that situation or what they'd say to me if I said or did a specific thing in a social interaction.

They are my only role model for this and I've known them since middle school. Their feedback has been genuinely helpful and they always take time to explain things to me and make sure I understand what they're trying to say. They are aware and accepting of how I am too and understand my needs. I'm really grateful for them.

Does anyone else ha

Hello!

I (17F) have been in special ed for a few years. I've been put in social skills classes, but they are more geared toward younger children or people with greater impairment. I have level 1 autism and function fine for the most part, but I do have issue with tone and making/keeping friends. It's really frustrating having just enough of a disability to need help but not being disabled enough to benefit from the help available.

Does anyone know any other ways I could improve social skills? I've tried going to more outings and meeting more people but I think I need more direct instruction. I'm in the US if it matters.

Thank you!

Hello!!

I (17F) recently had a bad interaction with my mom. It was late at night and she was yelling about a show she liked. It was hurting my ears and I said "can you quiet down please?". The way I said it (my tone) really hurt her, and I was not aware of my tone. I meant nothing more than my words.

She said I'm grounded until I "fix my attitude" which I didn't even mean in the first place. She knows I have autism and social communication issues. She has a psychology degree. I told her that I did not mean to speak how I did. She said that she "doesn't see how that's possible".

How do I show her that I wasn't aware of how I was coming across? I don't know how else to show her.

Thank yo

Hello!

For the longest time I've had issues recognizing people and I just now realized that it's a face recognition thing. I've started keeping notes of what people look like so I can study them and get better at recognition. If anyone else does this, what are you putting in your notes?

All help appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello!
I've been on nonstop Sprintec pill for about a year now for menstrual suppression. I recently got new insurance and they say that placebo week-free birth control is not medically necessary, because they believe I'm taking it for contraception (I'm not).

Problem is that it is medically necessary for me. Sparing the details, my period interferes with my daily functioning and I have to take large amounts of pain medication to manage it. I also have a disability that makes managing my period difficult.

To prove medical necessity, should I document my symptoms to show my gyno? She's awesome and completely believes that I'm having issues (doesn't know the extent of the issues though) b

Hello,
I'm looking for recommendations for low-stimulation movies to put on when I'm overstimulated. Watching something really helps me calm down. I'm looking for movies that have a simple plot too. Preferably little to no flashing lights or loud sounds. Kids movies are ok.

Thank you!!

Hello!!

I'm wondering what you guys do when you find old things from your exes. I'm 17 and haven't had much experience with this.

I was cleaning out my closet today and found a bunch of letters and small gifts from a girl I used to date. I'm trying to get rid of things I don't need (and I know I can't take these with me for the rest of my life) but they're just so sentimental and I don't know what to do with them. It hurts and feels wrong to throw them out but I know I shouldn't keep them.

Has anyone been through a similar situation? What do you suggest?

If it's relevant I'm still on good terms with this girl and we talk often but as friends.

Is this masking or something else?

⏲️Executive Functioning / Emotional Regulation

Hello, I've noticed something in my behavior patterns and I'm wondering if this is considered masking.

I typically spend my days volunteering at my local library. I'm friendly and talkative to patrons, always help them find what they need, and overall am very sociable and bubbly. I feel happy when I do this because I'm helping people.

When I get home though, all the overload from the day hits and i become an absolute grouch. It's like Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes I'm mean to those around me (WORKING ON THIS!!), sometimes I cry, and most of the time I just sit in my room for an hour or so with the curtains closed watching sensory videos and stimming. Even after that though I'm not at all s

Salut,

Merci beaucoup !!
