Apologies if this is a bit off topic, but I’m not sure where else to rant about this. I’ve been on this site for years and have seen few spaces as miserable and toxic as that place. I honestly want to believe they’re all bots haha, or else it’s just grown men and women screaming at folks younger than them. It’s easily one of the more depressing subreddits on this site.

I mean how can nearly every commenter and poster there be so aggressive and unfriendly compared to other subreddits?

I mean, he's a pretty strong guy and clearly athletic yet only won 4 out of the 16 challenges he competed in, 3 of those wins being team-based, and the one individual competition he won was a reward, not immunity.

He's an underratedly bad challenge performer haha, but you just wouldn't expect it from a guy like him. It reminds me of how terrible Wardog was in Edge of Extinction despite seeming like he should at least be somewhat decent.

Not saying Q is some massive exception like other strong dudes haven't floundered in challenges before, but I just find it pretty funny how poor of a performer Q is in challenges and if there's any reasons you guys might have noticed.

As the show has gone on for so long, it has obviously needed to innovate to avoid being formulaic. I completely understand this fact, but over time the show lost interest in the original concept of being a social experiment where 16 strangers are stripped of creature comforts and letting the players create the story. At the beginning of each episode of Borneo, Jeff even says "this is their story...", but I think this philosophy got lost over time. Borneo is far closer to being a real-life homage to Gilligan's Island than it really is to a season like Survivor 49.

I know some would point to Micronesia, Cambodia, All-Stars, or even Guatemala as being defining points, but I want to offer a

I had not revisited this season since 2020 during quarantine, and I'm amazed at how much my opinion of it has improved. I've always ranked high, but out of the first 10 seasons, it's always been my 3rd least favorite, right above Thailand and All-Stars, because I think it loses momentum after Jerri leaves.

That being said, there's just SOO much to love about this season for what it offers, and a lot of my old thoughts on it have changed. I know Kucha isn't exactly liked anymore, but I honestly find them to be a slightly more compelling tribe than Ogakor. I can see why the 2001 audience found them interesting and was rooting for them (Skupin's medevac certainly helped with that, too). I mean

It just occurred to me the other day how similar these seasons are in pushing the meta of the game in a different direction from its predecessors.

Both went into overdrive with strategy for their era and basically changed how the show would present itself. Also I wanted to started a thread for Amazon since I love the season and it should be talked about more lol.

Assume efforts to adapt ASOIAF just failed in the late 2000's so the series but then start again in the late 2010's, culminating in a 2021 release.

The show was already pretty well cast, so it's definitely hard to imagine some roles being played by anyone else.

That being said, I think Elle Fanning could play a good Daenerys who's more book accurate in looks and personality maybe. I would think that Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage probably still get offered Eddard and Tyrion too.

Any thoughts?

Survivor: Philippines is universally seen as a good season, but I’ve often gone back and forth in my mind how much Penner, Russell Swan, and Skupin played a role in making it so good.

On one hand, I think the cast itself was already solid, and the 15 newbies would’ve produced a fun story without the returnees. On a rewatch I was even annoyed at how much airtime Penner ate up because the edit kept harping on Jeff Kent vs Penner.

But I also think Russell has such a great tragic arc that we would’ve lost if he wasn’t on the season. And even though I was just complaining about Penner, he still has great moments in the season, particularly with Lisa.

He was a memorable player in Cook Islands, and he basically represented the Raro tribe's arrogance and mean spiritedness. I wasn't a fan of Adam while watching, but I mean considering Parvati and Candice eventually returned, it has always stuck out to me as interesting that Adam didn't. It's not like it wouldn't have made sense.

I did hear that he had a bad injury shortly after the season, but I can't remember the detail. Maybe that inhibited him from returning during that era, or he could've just declined.

In any case, hopefully he's doing well now. Just thought I'd shed light on a player not really discussed a lot.
