I have an unusually persistent interest with stirling engines (thermal engines), and I didn't understand thermoracoustic engines, a.k.a. lamina flow engines, a.k.a. thermal lag engines, a.k.a. Hofler tube engines, a.k.a. free piston engines when given an acoustic explanation, but "thermal lag" made me understand that it's the temperature difference that changes the pressure when the piston moves air from the hot side to the cold side, and nothing to do with acoustic resonance (there's no note! There would be a note if was acoustic).

What explanation made you understand something that had made no sense before?
