I upload my podcast with video to Youtube. When I upload I include the transcript with time stamps ( I comb through it first to make sure it doesn't have anything funky in there.)
I avoided hardcoding subtitles on the video (social media style) as I was worried it would overlap with subtitles someone puts on if they're using a different language or just have the CC turned on automatically.
I had a guest recently where the subtitles were necessary. Should I have just "hardcoded" them on there?
Anyone have experience or a preference on this?
Lots of attention on Gaza, but Syria remains critical for the Middle East's (greater Levant) future. For those interested in the region, Jerome Drevon's recent books are a must-read:
From Jihad to Politics: A history and evolution of two key jihadi groups in Syria, including the now-leading HTS.
Transformed by the People: An almost anthropological look at HTS's transformation from an Al Qaeda affiliate to a group meeting with global powers, including Trump.
Both books are available as free PDFs for the ramen eating students out there.
I recently interviewed Jerome about his work: https://youtu.be/tpRuDHOnIuI?si=gp2vXwDR8UWrjDx6
Unfortunately you all have been saved from my lame joke as I just realized images are not allowed.
I do a interview style podcast on geopolitics and in researching for an upcoming one on Syria, I watched an armed man giving a passionate speech surrounded by dudes with guns.
Smack in front of him was the logo we all know and love. Røde!
And for what it’s worth, I truly believe the more people podcasting, the better. One follower or one million, it doesn’t matter, your voice is worth sharing!
Hi all - I have a Tern electric bike and snapped the chain. I'm sure I could figure it out but am looking for a spot to go to regularly as well. Any recommendations on bike shops that do repairs on bikes that weren't bought there? (Got this in Brussels).
If you look to the numerous interviews by HTS leader al Jolani/al Sharaa, he's very clearly in the process of state building.
Examples being is communication style and message to the western press and gov't leadership. The statement to dissolve rebel groups and absorb them into the army. The restraint in messaging against continued foreign disrespect of Syrian sovereignty.
How do others see this and what will this process look like moving forward?
Created an AI professor / guide to debate with, learn from and hopefully grow a bit!
Feedback welcome

Hi all - one thing that I’ve wanted is a professor I can have conversations with to fill the gaps in my own understanding of international relations, pose wild ideas to see if they make sense (like Drezner’s use of Zombies to explain IR) and have debates on the topics we all want to talk about.
So I built a little GPT for it.

You could also pay lots of money and go to a top school. Or just let AI be your mentor
I know it’s no shorts and frigo boxes up in Knokke but does anyone know when Wavelake opens? The indoor surf thing???
All in the title I guess. If anyone has a bunch of boxes from a recent move that I can take off their hands , please let me know :)
Anyone know of a boat trip that is already open? I’ve seen a few that open starting 9/4 and others in the summer. Just looking to spend an hour or two on the water!
I’m negotiating to start a new a job and realizing I need to take the index into account.
What is the cut off? Do I have to have a start date by Dec 31 2022 for it to increase in January?
Obviously the employer has info but I want to inform myself so I don’t shoot myself in the foot during the negotiations.
