Our three year old was finally potty trained recently after a few unsuccessful attempts. It finally clicked when he started at a new daycare and was required to come to school in underwear. For the first week he had multiple accidents a day, and then overnight he just suddenly figured it out. He was asking us to use the potty and only ever had accidents if we just didn’t get there in time.

About a month later, it’s like he has lost all of the previous progress. He fights us tooth and nail about going potty and the only way we get him to go is to make it not optional. We’ve been resorting to bribing and manipulation (a gummy, a TV show, saying we can’t do insert next fun activity until he

Night six success!

Success Story

My four month old extreme Velcro baby just put himself to sleep after a scant two minutes of crying. I’m so relieved 😭

My baby just hit four months and we are ready to sleep train. Planning on full extinction as that worked with our first. I’m unsure of the best way to time it, though. We are going to the beach the first week of August. The following week, he starts daycare and I go back to work (I’m a teacher).

I’d planned to wait for things to settle after all these transitions before sleep training but I’m feeling desperate. He gives me a mix of good and bad nights. Good nights are a four or five hour stretch followed by two hour stretches. Bad nights are nothing but two (or less) hour stretches.

I’m honestly worried about how exhausted I’ll be once I start work and am wondering if I can take care of th

I’m desperate here. My eleven week old is getting harder and harder to put down and then doesn’t stay down for long. I know the general advice is four months for sleep training. Our pediatrician said six months (!!). We actually sleep trained our first at three months with great results, but now I’m worried we damaged him unknowingly (though he is a great independent sleeper to this day at three years old). I’m just so tired and frustrated and want to sleep!

We don’t really have a schedule yet, but I follow eat play sleep and try my best to stick to appropriate wake windows, though he fights naps during the day as well so I get the sense he is sometimes overtired.

My baby is 11 weeks old and has never been a good sleeper, but it feels like it’s getting even harder. I let him fall fully asleep on me (which takes a hot minute), and leave a solid buffer to make sure he’s really out. I warm the bassinet with a heating pad. I keep my dirty laundry right next to it so he can smell me. He is swaddled. I lower him so slowly, feet first, and keep my body close to his the entire time. I hold my hand on his chest or pat a heartbeat rhythm. We even bought a goddamn Snoo. After this whole fucking rigmarole tonight his eyes just flu right open as soon as his head touches the mattress and I have to start all over. Once I do get him down I know that I’m likely to onl

My husband and I have been gifted an evening out for a nice dinner at a restaurant of our choosing. This is a big deal as we have a newborn and a three-year-old so we really want to enjoy ourselves. We have some dietary restrictions though and are having a hard time coming up with somewhere that will be able to accommodate them. For starters, we are both vegetarians. Usually that is not an issue. However, I am currently having to strictly cut out both dairy and soy from my diet, hopefully temporarily. I feel like this eliminates Italian, something we usually both really like. Any suggestions? We’d love to stick as close as possible to downtown Durham. Probably not something casual, but a rea

Please help me feel hopeful about our newborn. He is seven weeks old tomorrow (so no real sleep schedule yet) and is so difficult to get to sleep. He has resisted the bassinet hard from birth (and yes, we are doing all the things - holding him until deeply asleep, lowering feet first, warming it with a heating pad, we even got a goddamn Snoo). We sometimes get him to stay down for as long as two hours, but those stretches are few and far between. I still try to get him in the bassinet, but my husband has given up and just lets him contact sleep.

Right now he will pretty much only sleep on me or my husband for any real stretches. I’ve even gotten desperate enough to try cosleeping, and it h

Struggling with newborn sleep

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks

I’ll start this by saying I never thought I would cosleep. We never did with our first (now 3yo) because he slept fine on his own and it seemed unsafe. However, our seven week old is NOT into his bassinet and we have been struggling since we brought him home from the hospital. My husband and I have been taking shifts and having very inconsistent success with getting him to sleep anywhere other than on us. He will sometimes stay down in his bassinet, but usually not for long. I have finally given into the idea of cosleeping with him and have done lots of reading on doing it safely, but my experiences thus far have been oddly disappointing. I assumed it would be a magic bullet, but it hasn’t b

Shallow latch

Support Needed

Hi all,

I’m nine days postpartum with my second, and our breastfeeding journey is not going as hoped. He has a super shallow latch that we are struggling to improve. It’s very painful. I can get him to latch correctly but it’s hard and always hurts at first. I have seen a IBCLC and she helped with his latch but we discovered that he has lost weight (after starting to gain back what he lost from birth, so he’s yo-yoed a bit). Essentially, my milk came in, he gained some weight, but his latch has been so inefficient that he was burning more calories nursing than he was taking in, and my supply took a big dip as a result.

She has me triple feeding right now, which I effing hate. I am only ge

Worried about social skills

General Question/Discussion

Does anyone else have a kiddo with questionable social skills? Our son will be three in a couple of months. He has always been drawn to other kids and really gets excited to have play dates with friends. We keep hearing from his daycare that they have concerns about his social skills. I guess he doesn’t often choose to join in with the group and instead goes off to sit in the corner alone. I have noticed that when we are at gatherings with multiple kids, he doesn’t really jump in with what other kids are doing but wants to cling to me. He’s not completely antisocial. He does pretty well with one-on-one play dates, and when I pick him from daycare I do often see him playing with small groups

I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant with my second child. My best friend from high school (still really close though we live states apart and don’t see each other that often - feels like a sister-type relationship) is getting married in Portugal exactly two months after my due date. She doesn’t seem to have any inkling that this might be a challenge for me and my family and is talking like it’s a given I will be there. I am very on the fence about whether to go or not.

On the one hand, this wedding is going to be truly gorgeous and amazing and several of the most important people in my life will be there, not to mention this is a friend who I know would always come through for me. I worry I wou
