We have a monorepo that is getting fairly large (both in repo size and working tree size) and when a bunch of jobs need the source code, they predictably cause pain. Historically, on startup, the jobs basically did git fetch --depth=1 $commit_sha on the commit, which transfers 1+GB of objects for just that commit.
I do some tricks now to preload packfiles[1] and some packed-refs that point master at a reasonable fresh point in history that jobs can use on startup; the git fetch is fast and small from that point because they negotiate just the difference. The problem is that now, even those packfiles are getting kind of large and the reality is that 99.999% of fetches are likely "clo
I have a large repo (hundreds of thousands of commits) where the predominant workflow is merge-based. I want to produce a separate version of the repo where master has been totally linearized (i.e., I will not push this back up to the server, I just want to see what such a repo would look like).
The way this would work in my head is that I'd walk the repo and, for every merge commit C, I'd basically squash the whole diff between the merge commit and parent 1 into a single commit and commit that instead.
Is there a nice way to do this or do I have to write it myself? It's a huge repo, so this process would have to be totally automated.
Does anyone know where I can find 93 in the metro area? I live in Edmond and I’ve tried a few gas stations that might theoretically have it and I’ve had no luck so far.
Thanks!
I know that some people choose not to include their organs in their net worth because they aren’t liquid, but my logic is that I’ve been investing in them for years and I could always downsize later on. I’ve also met some very nice people that said I could use my kidneys as collateral on a line of credit, so it really feels like I can include them.
What do you guys do?
I started a new job in January, maxed my pre-tax 401k and the mega backdoor there, then quit and went back to my previous employer in August.
I can’t do more pre-tax contributions, but it turns out that the total limit for the after-tax contributions is per person per employer per year, so I get to stuff another $66k through the mega backdoor.
Kind of feels like cheating and requires some unusual circumstances, but I’m not complaining.
