Hey folks! I'm not attending PAX, but in years past I've really enjoyed listening to folks playing chiptune sets outside of the Convention Center. Does anyone know if there's anything like that happening this year, and where I could find out more information about that? Or has that stopped in recent years?

I have a lot of functions that I expose to scripts, and the functions look a lot like this. Most of the code in the function is devoted to extracting parameters, checking types, returning (currently non-descriptive) errors, or setting default values. Only the last ten lines of this 63-line function are concerned with implementing the desired behavior.
It's tedious to repeat this boilerplate code in every function, and a change to this boilerplate code needs to be replicated across dozens of functions.

I'd like to use code generation to simplify this. There is no reason these script files, and the functi

EDIT: Solved. Silly mistakes. :)

My project uses the old immediate mode OpenGL since I've been spending quite a bit of time just trying to figure out how to cleanly transition it to modern OpenGL. The first step I've determined is to pull in GLEW for finding extensions, as an alternative to using SDL_GL_GetProcAddress (like so) to find them (which would be considerably more manual effort).

Unfortunately, when I made the switch from using SDL_GL_GetProcAddress to using GLEW, my framebuffer objects started rendering in a messed up way. I currently use framebuffers to transition between scenes or game states (

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Main purpose is emulation (up to Dolphin), but also want to play some of the recent 2D indie games that've come out (e.g. FEZ, Dustforce), as well as some turn-based strategy games like Civ5 (without bringing the settings down too far hopefully). Not going to be playing any intensive twitch-based games (RTS, FPS) on this rig since I have another one for that already. EDIT: Oh, and I'll probably stream media off of it as well, though I doubt that changes the requirements.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$500 is my budget f

I'd like to take my wife to Vegas since she's never been there. We'll be mainly walking along the Strip, taking in the hotels, the shows (Cirque, Fountains, etc.) and the restaurants. It'd be a shame to go there and find out that some major attractions are either sold out due to high demand or closed due to the holiday.

Vegas is always crowded, but I'm wondering what it's like on the Thanksgiving weekend relative to a typical weekend in Vegas. Some people are saying it's way more crowded because folks from California come in for the holiday, while others say that it's far less crowded because people prefer to spend the holiday with their families.

A lot of posts also mention looking for a

Hi folks,

I've got a 2D RPG project that I've been working on for the past few years. When I first began this project, I thought it'd be a great way to grow my understanding of OpenGL. Problem is, the course I took in school still taught the fixed pipeline and never got into the topic of shaders. This was in 2008. I've since learned that there has been a better way for years.

I know that the core profile is something that I will have to adopt (judging by my velocity, I think immediate mode will be completely phased out before I finish my game ;). My next steps with this game (the battle system) will involve a lot of graphical work (flashy magic spells and the like) and I want to make sur

Hi folks,

I'm currently trying to get libRocket working on my OS X machine. libRocket has a dependency on Freetype2, so I'll need that as well. As far as I can tell, Freetype is not packaged as part of the OS X 10.9 SDK, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I grabbed the latest version of Freetype (2.5.3) and built it (using CMake to generate a Unix Makefile). I ran "make install" after building and everything went smoothly. When I went to the libRocket source, I ran CMake (configuring it to point at /usr/local/include/freetype2 as necessary) and generated another Makefile. Running 'make', I ran into this issue:

I'm evaluating how easy it would be to integrate CEF into my existing C++ game project, which uses CMake to generate Makefiles/projects and SDL2/OpenGL for rendering. Has any other game dev done something similar? How difficult was it to do and are there any issues you've encountered thus far?

For more context:
I'm creating a game where I'd like the UI to be made using HTML5. I currently use libRocket for my in-game menus because it touted simple, lightweight HTML support. However, thus far it's only supported a modified subset of HTML/CSS (RML/RCSS), making it difficult to leverage best practices for web development. Hello, folks. I've been writing an RPG from scratch since I was still in school. It's been instrumental in my learning C++ and OpenGL, and it's been a great chance to actually architect my own application from scratch and experiment with ideas and techniques without stepping on the toes of teammates at my day job. However, working on this project alone for so long, it's easy to overlook or miss issues in my code that might be caught by a second pair of eyes.

I can't ask for any person to review all of my code. But even small glances and feedback help. Anything is fair game: my code, my architecture, my CMake file, even my README. The only suggestion I won't accept is to give up on the pro

There are no guidelines around code review requests mentioned in the FAQ at the moment, and this made me a bit unsure of where it would be appropriate to post a code review request, if that's even been discussed.

Since a lot of programming questions are fielded in this subreddit compared to other coding subreddits, I feel like this is the first place where people would look to find a way to have their code reviewed. I also think that a growing developer should have an easily accessible place to put up code for review, since it significantly aids the learning process even when the code doesn't exhibit any (obvious) bugs.

There are a handful of subreddits here solely dedicated to code review

I saw this card in the Newegg Daily Deals and it's the right price for me and a pretty nice card on paper.

The problem is that I can't find reviews for this specific model anywhere.
Has anybody used it before, or is it brand new?
Are there any issues with the Sapphire brand (e.g. poor customer service, dead/defective cards) that would make this a bad deal?
