I received an unused IBM encrypted ThinkPad that runs Linux. I was hoping to get some advice on how to approach a factory reset on it to use as a personal laptop. There is no "standard" windows login screen where one can go through the settings to reset. Is the best way to run a windows installer from the launch a temporary startup device menu? Would this allow me to go in and remove the encrypted OS afterwards? Any tips are appreciated.

Does anyone know if truck mechanics can challenge the heavy equipment red seal? Is there any hours credit from the 310T apprenticeship given to 421A?

Would be super helpful to hear if anyone has written both or made the switch.

I have been taking a continuing education course about the part 9 building code.

The content is bare, and completely minimal. The modules do not contain the information required to even answer the quizzes correctly. There is no additional resources for the course.

I'm not sure what to do, as I am basically going through a course without learning anything at all, and I'm positive I won't be able to correctly do the final exam when the time comes.

Anyone else had this issue or has some ideas to solve this?

Hey Friends,

I was wondering if anyone does primarily refractory work in the Greater Toronto Area?

I used to be a part of local 2, but never went to the refractory side. I know there's work in Hamilton and Sudbury in the heavy industries, but I was wondering if there's work in local 2s jurisdiction? Looking for a change these days and I'd like to get my feet wet in a side of masonry I've never been in.

Just wanted to get a quick opinion from you established guys on my chances of getting into the industry.

I'm a red seal bricklayer based out of Toronto with experience in millwrighting as well. I plan to take a construction management certificate course from George Brown to bolster my experience.

Generally, with credentials such as these, is there a chance of a company bringing me on as an assistant pm/super? Is there anything you could recommend that might increase my chances?

Edit: Thanks for the responses everyone, very helpful!

This is aimed at anyone who operates a construction company in a denser city area.

I've been running a masonry company for a bit over two years now in a rural area. I'm sick of country life and am looking to move back to the city but I've never had the headaches of city business operation. I know I can get work and have a few existing connections so my huge issue at this point is storage. Do you guys try to rent out dedicated office/storage space? Rent a storage locker? Pay your neighbour to stuff shit in his garage? Im not running a huge company so expensive real estate tends to be difficult. Any tips or solutions are appreciated.
