A friend of mine got a new job and is looking to enter the PC gaming space. He said he'd be looking to spend about $1000 but I gave a $200 buffer because I know he could be convinced if the value was there. He would be playing mostly Esports titles (Overwatch, Apex Legends, etc.) with the odd AAA filtered in. He already has a 144hz monitor and I have spare peripherals so those need not be considered.

This is the partlist I'm currently working on, looking for any suggestions or optimizations I may have missed. We also have a Microcenter about an hour away in Cambridge, MA if that helps.

I really believe that this is an extremely positive step to changing the way the game is played. I have a strong feeling the elite queue games are going to be played a lot differently than the base MM. I think that the games will have people dropping a lot more spread out on the map and playing a bit more strategically than the current gameplay of the multi thousand kill crowd dropping hot and trying to gun their way victory. As long as there's some cool badges for placements/wins in the Elite Queue, this could be a really fun and interesting shake-up.

What do y'all think about it?

Obviously, the 20 kill badge and damage hammers are impressive, so outside of those what badges make you think "damn, this dude is pretty good"?

I'll start:

  • Rapid Elimination - Downing 4 people in 20 seconds is no small task in a game with TTK as high as this
  • Triple Triple - You gotta be on your game or the king of kill stealing to snag this bad larry
  • Well-Rounded - I have seen exactly two people with this badge and if I see it on a teammate, I know that I can trust them to have a grip on their abilities and be able to click on the bad guys
