Avalanchenearmiss.org is a place for avalanche workers to tell their stories and share their experiences.

Avalanche accidents are often well documented by public sector investigators and published in volumes like The Snowy Torrents or Avalanche Accidents in Canada. The lessons learned from these reports are invaluable. Working with avalanches requires a wealth of experience, and a seasoned avalanche worker’s most valuable experiences often come from events that don’t end in injury or death – from near misses.

This project is patterned after a similar effort in the Firefighter and Law

Dumping snow, blowing and light kind of like its 4:45 in the afternoon. At the very least turn on your running lights and slow down

" I just received an email from Big Sky explaining the new policy regarding shuttle service at the parking lots. The main parking lots, Lone Peak and carpool will no longer be served by the shuttle.

The rationale is the walk to the Explorer Gondola is a "short walk." If you or your family arrives late morning and has to park at the far end, this is not a short walk.

Is this another example of "we don't care about the local skier?"

Playing a par 5 yesterday, the green is just past an irrigation ditch that has been turned off for the fall. Some nimrod collected a bunch of balls and left the ones they didn't want scattered along the edge of the green. Needless to say it caused a little confusion.
