I bought a boat almost 2 years ago that had a diesel heater already installed. Unfortunately it was wired up with a really long run (like 30+ feet round trip) of 14ga wire. I had constant failures from voltage drops as one would expect. I finally got around to rewiring it with 8ga wire. In the process I removed the inline fuse but wired it to a 25 amp breaker. I am now realizing it should probably be a 20 amp.

Is it ok to stick to 25 or should I bump it down to 20? And just to clarify the 8ga is tied into the original wire (maybe 12-14ga I can’t remember). Should I keep what I have or go to 20 amp?

I am in the process of adding a new bowsprit to accommodate an anchor roller. I wanted to seal it, so there are already several coats of clear epoxy on and I am now looking for a suitable topcoat.

I am leaning towards a single or two part polyurethane. Thoughts?

I am currently in the middle of a full on electrical refit. Everything is being replaced except individual branch circuits at this time.

I went with the Victron Phoenix charger to handle shore power. It has a 30 amp main battery output and a trickle charger. I can’t decide which battery (house or starter) I should hook the main output to. Here are some stats that will give some context about my setup.

The starter battery is a 76 amp hour Odyssey that will have a dedicated 50 watt panel.

The house battery is a 300 amp hour lifepo4 battery with 530 watts of solar. My biggest load on that will be a dual zone refrigerator.

Starter and house battery are completely isolated from each other

Looking for a brand that offers wide sizes but the search has been unsuccessful so far. Is this a thing or am I out of luck?
