Ping spiked?

I’ve read about losers doing nefarious things that detract from the fun most of us try and enjoy. I’ve heard they can mess up gameplay in various ways, ping has been mentioned. I was finally doing well, on 3rd for my team, and threw an epically placed oil pot. Major enemy damage, families in mourning. Got disconnected shortly after(usually picks up after a second)and I looked at the scoreboard and my ping that usually around 40 was over 600. Only me. Seemed weird. Anyone care to weigh in anything?
