I’ve been looking for some good learning apps for my 4yo son. a lot of what I find seems super repetitive just tracing letters, drilling ABCs, or counting practice. That’s fine, but I’d love something that mixes in creativity too (like pretend play, art, or problem-solving) so it doesn’t feel like “work” for him.
he’s starting kinder in the fall, so I’m mainly after something light and fun that can still support early learning without making screen time feel like schoolwork.
Have any of you come across apps that balance both learning and creativity?

any apps your kids actually learn from but still have fun being creative?
been testing out a few learning apps with my 3yo things like Khan Academy Kids, Kiddopia and ABCmouse. each one feels a bit different. Some are more about reading and letters, others are more playful and creative.
My kid really loves the math and shape games but also gets really into the pretend play stuff like cooking or space adventures. Sometimes I’m not sure if he’s actually learning or just having fun, but then he’ll randomly point out shapes or talk about planets, so I guess it’s working.
Do your kids have a favorite app? What made them stick with it?
On Saturday, we had gone for a shopping as usual and were on our way back home. My 3yo son was sitting in his car seat, quietly munching on a snack, when suddenly he shouted, “mom look! firetruck!”
I glanced up and saw it weaving through traffic with its lights flashing. before i could even respond, he started gushing, “the fireman drives it to help people and put out fires! They wear helmets and boots and have hoses to spray water!” honestly this was so shocking because we haven’t really talked about firemen at home yet.. it turned out he had learned this from one of the apps (Kiddopia) which had i installed on the ipad and somehow it clicked with him.
It made me stop and thin
i got a 3yo son who really loves learning apps, but every time we try something new, ads or in-app purchases interrupt everything and it's so frustrating. I want an app that’s fun, educational, and ad-free. has anyone tried Kiddopia or anything similar? Would love honest feedback from parents
