I'm a 2nd-year mechanical engineering student trying to understand the controls/mechatronics path before committing. What draws me: I like taking a real physical system, understanding it deeply, and building a structured/reusable way to solve or model it.For example, instead of manually designing one gearbox, I built a parametric equation-based framework to design any gearbox. I enjoy integrating multiple technologies and understanding systems end-to-end. I do not enjoy: narrow execution work, hyper-niche optimization, or grinding one tiny problem for months.

A few honest questions for people actually working in controls/mechatronics:

  1. What does your day-to-day actually look like? Is i

TL;DR: After seeing the realities of industry during my internship, I'm questioning whether a purely technical engineering career can provide the compensation and balance I'm looking for. Considering CFD and would like to understand the long-term career prospects.

I'm a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student currently interning at a large multinational making heavy machinery. The work is good-we're developing things like cycloidal drives and welding inspection algorithms-and I've realized that I really enjoy technical engineering work.

At the same time, being in industry has made me question what the long-term future looks like. A lot of the engineers around me seem passionate and skille

TL;DR: 2nd-year MechE student interning in top engg firm for PS. I love the technical work, but seeing the compensation and lifestyle of many engineers around me has made me question what a long-term career in mechanical engineering looks like.

Looking for advice on high-paying technical paths, CFD, consulting, engineering management, and the value of a Master's degree.

[Long post ahead. I'd genuinely appreciate it if you could take the time to read and share your perspective.]

I'm a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student currently interning in a robotics division, and I'm having a bit of a career crisis.

The work itself is good. The team is developing in-house technologies like cyclo

Hi all, 2nd Year mechanical engineering student and I've been tasked with replicating the results of this paper as an academic exercise. (They are using CFX solver)

Now, on to my question - why. is. it. SO HARD. WHY ARE THERE A BILLION SOFTWARES IN ANSYS THAT SEEM TO DO THE SAME THING??? (DISCOVERY/SPACECLAIM/DESIGNMODELER OR WHATEVER)

Anyways, I wanted to ask this - Do I learn ANSYS discovery? I fired up DesingModeler as most of the CFD tutorials I found used that, but the software itself is telling me that everything is to be now done on Discovery instead (which itself is unbelievably jank).

In short: I don't know wh

Hi guys. I have a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5s that I've had for 3-4 years now and I love them.

Unfortunately, recently they have broken at the hind of the earcups and the headband in a very weird way, which causes the earcup to not rest on my head properly (see attached pics).

The hinge seems to have cracked

I am absolutely devastated. Apart from the price, I loved these headphones and used them ALLL the time. I did not expect this poor build quality fro

Hi, I wanted to ask about the cost of PS1, because as far as I have been told, PS1 does require some extra fees.
On that topic, where can we get the complete expected fee structure for a 4 year degree for a 2024 batch guy? As I can seem to only find older ones and ones that are there for a single year and not all 4.

If somebody could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hello, I am a second year student and I have created a thermodynamics playlist to help you with the course.

It is till the chapter First Law of Thermodynamics (I ran out of time to make it further) and should cover a good part of the midsem syllabus.

I saw a lot of my friends struggle with such a simple and linear subject, which prompted me to make this playlist. I explain in detail the thought process that goes behind each question and tell you only the necessary stuff required to solve questions.

I hope that you will have a look at it and learn from it. Please share with your batchmates as well! (no gatekeeping)

Help! I accidentally spilled hot chocolate on my favourite white pants while dining outside yesterday. This is after soaking in detergent overnight and washing in the machine. What do I do?

Hello! In these vacations i have been bored out of my mind and have thus decided to create some youtube lectures on thermodynamics for juniors (and for that sweet, sweet ad revenue). I have made some videos covering the first chapter and the basics - and I want your feedback on if I should continue.

If you like my teaching style, my pacing, the style of videos, etc - or dislike any of these - please tell me. I will then be able to decide if this resource will actually help people or not.

I would really appreciate feedback on this (especially from the upcoming 2025 batches). Thank You!

Hello, relatively new player here (though my hours don't reflect that lol) and I just unlocked red belts. I wanted to ask, the "recommended" amount of belts for a resource in KatherineOfSky's main bus guide is with regard to normal yellow belts or with red belts? Also, one red belt can supply 2 yellow belts using a splitter, right?
